White Balance

I have a Sony D-700 with the White Balance control. It also has WH Hold and day light indicator. Amount the three controls, i.e., WH, WH hold and day light, which one control that I should use to produce better color picture when I take picture, say of the building, in a bright sunny day? Thanks - Ken

You'll need the manual to be sure but Daylight would seem to be the choice for daylight outdoors shooting. People adjust their perception (unconciously) to some extent to what they think a view should be in various types of light, cameras (digital or film)do not. Artificial lights do not produce the same spectrum of light so a camera which is balanced to a particular light source can't adapt without setting changes to a different light source and spectral balance. That's what gives wierd tints. You might notice it some when shopping for clothes and can't really tell what a color is under store lights or the clothes look different outside :).
