I can't believe that Y2KPro could be responsible for those posts. He is an irritant, but for pete's sake, why would he do this? Particularly since the sysops can easily delete the offensive images.

They both came in on the Sirrah anonymizer, which is his preferred route.

Good detective work, but what can be done about it? I think anonymizer uses multiple IP addresses so it is resistant to blocking. I shudder to think about what would happen if some knowledgeable programmer wrote a robot to spam this newsgroup with porn. It could embed the porn in numerous threads and make a lot of work for the sysops to fix. It will offend many (and titillate some). You can skip over text you don't like, but how can you avoid seeing a picture. I guess I'll have to turn off image display when I visit this site. Graphics not needed anyway.

We try, but the several of us DO have to do other things to see that the rent gets paid.

NONE of us are anything more than volunteers here.

Don't you have to keep the thread intact in order to preserve the thread as evidence to later use against the offender? Doesn't that mean that the porn will still be here? At least change the thread title to warn others not to view it.

It's disgusting and vulgar. Please delete it.

Sysops : Can you block the entire NETWORK range that the the anomisiers (sp?) use ?.

-- XOR (drwizzard@usa.net), January 31, 2000.

I noticed it in some other threads too. Too tired to remember which ones. Wonder what the wife's up to now...

-- Ceemeister (ceemeister@hotmail.com), January 31, 2000.

have deleted 3 so far and no we don't keep that stuff intact.

Can't ID his ISP because he uses an anonymizer most of the time.

Since minors regularly lurk here, and it's against the law to post porn on the internet without an age disclaimer, the authorities should be able to obtain the account info which will include the phone number of the modem being used (?archives). Even if it is not PRO (and it may well be), whoever it is, is infringing on the rights of the rest of us by offering it on the open net. This sick individual needs to be stopped!! Where are the rights of those who would choose to NEVER see such a thing? Should they have to refrain from using the forum because of such a cretin.

Several cases have made the local news recently, and the perps are stinkin up the graybar hotel as we speak. The line has been crossed, and I for one have lost tolerance for it. I will be contacting the authorities in the AM. Enough is enough. Got kids?

Chuck,

I zapped a couple too. Gotta be the same troll that did this a couple weeks ago.

*Sigh*

---sysops, i will gladly drop a nickel to any and all "anonymiser" services you can identify and post the real phone numbers of. those places that are retrqansmitting banned posters and other new spam. perhaps if the "customer service" gets a few hundred phone calls threatening lawsuits maybe they'll get the message and close up shop or police what they anonymously re-transmit, because that makes them party to the crime. they can't hide behind "well we didn't know" etc. legal precedent is there, the driver of a get away car at a robbery is just as guilty as the ones inside doing the stickup. Take it to the source, and that includes y2kspam pro's hotmail. It's time to take the offensive, be proactive, not reactive. I had a problem on mine, and called that &^$$ anonymous proxie company and reamed them a good one. They all have offices in some state or another, and all those states have attorney generals or county prosecutors, and this is an election year. Bypass the spammers go direct to these services, get real names, if they don't cooperate, go directly to the authorities. I say shut those anonymous criminal forwarding services down. I don't care if 90% of those companies biz is legit, the other 10% is bona fide illegal, they are guilty of illegalities, they have the power to deal with it or get nailed by a rabid prosecutor. They can do business without doing business illegally, they just need to know that illegal forwarding is still illegal, THEY are responsible. that'll get em off their butts and contact the offenders own isp's, and get them involved, too. This is how you deal with bungholes, keep going up and up into the food chain until you get action. Just post the info here, on a new thread, I'm sure there's enough interest here to generate a few hundred phone calls to these "services" and the local authorities. Thanks, only thing I can think of, and I'm also sure that there's some equally rabid lawyers out there perfectly wiling to take on any dot com company you want for a cut, if they have a clear cut case. nail em hard, keep nailing them. We have the numbers, the concern, and the determination of the decent people here to throw a scare into these 'anonymous" services. they are part of illegal enterprise, RICO maybe? Maybe a lawyer here will comment, but I will re state, you'll get hundreds of phone calls generated, just get us the names and phone numbers. Pick the most offensive, then work your way down. One at a time, force multiplier. One a day. that'll do some good, I'm sure.

-- zog (zzoggy@yahoo.com), January 31, 2000.

zog is right. These services need to be shut down completely. Stop giving pollies a place to hide and spew their crap. Cut them off at the source, root them out, and shut them down.

-- (hal@gostek.org), January 31, 2000.

If they could have been closed, they *would* have already been closed by CoS.

They *did* get Julf at anon.penet.fi, because of the way he maintained a database.

You spam, just like a loser,

But you whine, like a little fart.

Go tell someone who cares. You burned your own bridges. Take a hike.

(Apologies to Bob Dylan, of course.)
