Could Juno be the chink in AOL's armor? Expert alert! What am I missing? I am trailer park trash....so no axe to grind. Juno

Kyle, Hi!...I'm certainly no 'expert', but after 5 or 6 years surfing the 'Net, here's what works for me....started at 9600 (this was before the Net bacame so graphics intensive, but still slow as molasses in winter), with a local ISP who was operating out of his garage I think. When he went under, I went with AOL v1.0, didn't like it (cluttered and not easy to find your way around). Canceled AOL, tried CompUserve for a while, ditto. Finally landed on Prodigy (I know, I know, I've seen the snide comments about Prodigy being for beginners, ect), But I stayed with them for almost 5 1/2 years, and had both P* Classic and P*Internet (Separate access phone numbers). Then they dropped Classic, and the busy signals on the P*I number became the order of the day. When they did their y2k remediation, they managed to delete my auto-pay account, and suspended my membership. About 3 months prior, I discovered NetZero. (=0= cost/mo), but a constant ad window on screen slowed the system to a crawl, even with a 56k v.90 modem. Also many auto disconnects while reading newsgroups such as this, due to 'inactivity"...I finally had to start reloading the page every so often just to reset their timer.

Juno mailed a CD for ver 4.0 at 9.95/mo after the 1 month/150 hour free trial. So far I'm connecting every time, no busy signals, no disconnects. The only problem (minor, nitpicky) is that Juno's E-mail doesn't work from NetScape 4.7, only MSIE (that's another story), so I have to exit to the main WebMail page, or exit completely from NetScape and go to the Juno E-mail icon on the desktop. Granted, I've only been using Juno since Jan. 25, so maybe I havn't discovered the =secrets= of Juno E-mailing.. :)

As of now, I am happy with Juno, and will probably stay with it when my 'free' month runs out. My AOL CDs?......Frisbees! ymmv mho

Ray, I just got Juno a couple of weeks ago. 4.0. Received the disc in the mail, unsolicited. So far it appears to be as good as or better than AOL. And less than half the price. What bugs me is why a week later they sent me version 3.0. Thanks Ray, Kyle

There is a free internet provider that does not have the add banner on it. You do have to fill out survey questions once a month and it is not available everywhere, but looks like a pretting fair deal. They even donate a little money to your favorite non-profit each month.

Hey all you morals police and all of you who are god's chosen people to lead america back to decency-Don't you know that several high level executives in JUNO have been hit with sexual discrimination suits? that they have a fraternity atmosphere there where women are treated like dirt? Is this what we mean by "stand by your men"? Do you want to give your money to men like this?? I know they have not been proven guilty, but innuendo is good enough for all of you to condemn clinton.

Thanks, Cherri...got it bookmarked....and will check it out.

Freewwweb does not have an ad banner. It is specified that you load their home page at startup. Works well for me and I have an old computer. Sometimes get a busy signal on evenings and weekends, however.

Hey guys, I am on Juno as of now. I haven't yet called AOL to cancel, but plan to. Question: If I cancel will I also have to uninstall? I have many files in AOL download folder. I should be able to keep this folder after I cancel right? I will save future files to another location I guess...anyway any help appreciated. Brain is a little cramped on this question right now. Thanks for the help so far on this thread and the other related one. Kyle

The folders and things in them will not be effected. You can even change the name of the folder if you want to.

Thanks Cherri.....I know how to rename folders. I want all traces of AOL off of my computer. Will I have to do a restore and start up again with Juno? I would hate to do that....but maybe I could save all AOL files to floppy before I restored, huh?
