NY Times: Markets slipping toward worst January in 10 years (when the last recession began)

Here's the NY Times pointing out that a recession followed similar January market performance. Weren't y2k experts predicting a recession if y2k materialized. Of course, there are no y2k problems and anybody who says so is a heretic and will be burned at the stake ( or lose their job ) :)

Markets slipping toward worst January in 10 years

Filed: 01/28/2000

N.Y. Times News Service

NEW YORK Stock prices fell sharply Friday as the three major market indexes prepared to post their worst performances for a January in a decade or more.

If the current levels hold through Monday, the technology-heavy Nasdaq index, off 4.5 percent for the year, will chalk up its worst start to a year since 1990, the year that the nation's last recession began. The Dow Jones industrial average, down 6.6 percent, will have its worst January since 1978. The Standard & Poor's index of 500 stocks, down 7.4 percent, will have its worst January since 1970.

Oddly enough, this disappointing performance occurs just as the nation's economy is setting a record for the longest economic expansion in its history

THIS CAN'T BE TRUE!!!!

Just last week when I bought my latest batch of BUBBLE.COM Stocks my broker told me "personally" that I was making an "Excellent Move" buying when I did because "We're living in a New Era"!!! And this is an Era where the old rules, well they just don't apply anymore!!! And I believe Him a Lot More than some Wire Service article!!! I mean this guys just the greatest! He wears suits that cost a Grand Apiece! Takes Four or Five fabulous vacations a year! And lives in a Million Dollar Mansion! So who am I going to believe, Him or some "Back Alley" Rumor Mill Article! I'd tell you more, but he had to cut our last meeting short so he could go make his Mercedes Payment!!! "WHAT A GUY!!!"
