See today's Drudge Report. I guess we are headed in this direction and there is no turning back. Well, THANKS Mr. Cronkite for lifting my spirits on this cold, icy, gloomy day!

Looks like Walter is about as loyal to the Constitution as Joseph Stalin was.

ilander,

Walter Cronkite is a great American. Did you even read the interview, or did you just glance at the Drudge healine?

There is nothing wrong with international law. There is nothing wrong with enforcing international law. We just need to make sure it is not the self-serving law of the wealthy, the powerful, and the multi-nationals (ie, the World Trade Organization).

Sincerely,

Uhhmmm--- OK, I admit I am a bit of a pessimist. And, it sounds like a sensible idea and necessary, considering the state of the world. What concerns me about this attitude is: 1. Where will this lead down the road? 2. Just WHO will that executive be? 3. Who elects/appoints him? Keep in mind most of the world's population is not in the "Western world". Now I've really scared myself--make me feel better-please!

Uhhmmm... ,

Yes, I went to BBC and read the article - thanks.

Sovereignty is the issue at hand - without it our Constitution is worthless. There is nothing wrong with international law among nations in the same manner as there is local law among citizens in our community. But for anyone to give up rights in our community for the purpose of exercising law and order will only lead to further turmoil and eventual oppression by the state. Similarly, for America and other nations to give up sovereignty for the sake of international law and order will leave the world open to more turmoil and oppression by a single world governing body.

People wanting to conquer the world such as Hitler and Stalin knew they had to breach each individual nations sovereignty before they could hand out their own versions of international law and order. And yes, some the rich and powerful have the same goals as Hitler and Stalin.

There is no argument that could possibly cause me to give up the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution. Yes, I know in our liberal world being loyal to the Constitution is old fashioned - but that is just tough. Until our Constitution is legally changed to suit the views of folks like Walter, I will personally stick with the Constitution as it has been written and legally amended thus far.

I think we are sitting in the same church Mr. Uhhmmm... , just we are not in the same pew.

J,

I share your concerns, but not for the same reasons. The globalization games are ongoing. We need laws to protect us and an enforcement mechanism, but we don't want them developed and paid for by the banker boys. Is this possible? I think the demonstrations at the WTO meeting in the Northwest and the protests at Davos indicate that there are enough aware folks to make it a fair tussle.

The internet worries the wealthy for good reason. Focus, not distraction is the ticket for carrying the day. Please, concentrate on what the folks with money are doing.

Sincerely,

-- Uhhmmm... (JFCP81A@aol.com), January 29, 2000.

ilander,

The gloablists are destroying our productivity, exporting Ameirican jobs to the lowest overseas bidder, and reaping huge profits by selling low cost goods to those Americans who still have a good paying job. As more and more jobs are shipped overseas, the pool of good paying jobs will decrease. Eventually, prices will decrease and finaly collapse as the middle class collapses. Eventually, profits will decline. So all incentives are to get offshore as soon as possible and rape the middle class in the short time remaining.

Unless we can reign in the gloabists, the wealthy, and the multinationals, the Constitution will be meaningless. I think we can have both the Constitution AND international law. We just have to work at it. Again, the brave folks who spoke up at the WTO and the Davos conference are on the front line of this battle.

Sincerely,

-- Uhhmmm... (JFCP81A@aol.com), January 29, 2000.

That's great, spilling the beans in Vietnam didn't have ANYTHING with LBJ's "ability to govern" now did it? Geez, the lewinsky affiar isn't our business, but his desire to mess up our war effort in vietnam is? Guess what people we beat the VC at tet! Tet was a disaster for the VC, but rather than wait for the facts he decides to announce his opinion, after seeing a few dead bodies, and force it on everybody else! Sure the press has the right to report on war, they also have the right to get their facts straight, and the taste to not show everything. What an ass! I don't care if he is walter cronkite, he's an arrogant pusillanimious liberal media whore, period.
