Problems with Compact Flash card in C-2500L

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I've got an irritating problem with CF cards used in my C-2500. When I do consecutive erasures on the CF I consistently get a CARD ERROR message. It never happens when I delete only one photo, just when I delete 3 or more. It also never happens to my 8MB Smartmedia card.

In the past, I've had to reformat the card after a CARD ERROR occurs because I'm then unable to use any of shooting modes unless I switch to SM. Recently, I discovered that merely opening the media bay door while the camera was on (of course - never while the cards are being accessed) gets rid of the CARD ERROR condition. However, the CARD ERROR pops back up even when only one photo is being erased.

I've used 32MB CF cards from Kingston and Pretec with the same results. These cards were previously used in my Casio E-100 PDA but have been re-formatted for the C-2500.

Ren, are you on a Mac platform?

I suspect you are, because I have the same problems with my Sandisk 32mb CF card and I've encountered similar messages on other newsgroups. It usually occurs after I've copied an image from the CF card via the USB card reader onto my Mac.

The problem disappears after reformatting the card, until the next time I attempt to delete images in-camera after using the card reader.

It's frustrating: hopefully there will be a firmware update to address this if at all possible.

Make sure, according to the 2500 instruction manual, that you formate non olympus cards using the camera to formate.
