World's elite gather for blue-chip mountain summit

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 27 (AFP) -

The world's political and business elite were gathering in the Swiss Alps for the start Thursday of an annual blue-chip summit to discuss the world's woes and attempt to sketch out its future.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting is being held amid unprecedented security, amid warnings of anti-globalization protests like those which ruined last month's World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting in Seattle.

The top-table annual conference brings together over 30 heads of state and government, scores of ministers and more than 1,000 top business chiefs for six days of global brainstorming in the Swiss ski resort of Davos. ( My comment why Davos)

US President Bill Clinton, who arrives Saturday, is the star of this year's show, the 30th edition of the Davos meeting which in the past has played host to historic events including key Middle East and South African accords.

On the business side the likes of Microsoft head Bill Gates and AOL chief Steve Case will gather to mull the future of the internet economy, while WTO chief Mike Moore will discuss the future of world trade.

The meeting, this year, entitled "New Beginnings: Making a Difference," is billed as the first major international meeting of the 21st century, and a chance to set the agenda for the new millennium.

"New realities are radically changing almost every domain of human activity," said WEF Managing Director Claude Smadja.

"The compounding forces of globalization, the technology and biology revolutions, and the emergence of the e-economy confront us with a challenge of unprecedented magnitude in modern history."

But security risks are providing a major headache, as organizers fear a Seattle effect arriving in the Swiss Alps. (protest like seattle cant happen up there and they know it)

In the biggest security operation in the Davos meeting's 30-year history, the Swiss army has been called in to back up local police in sealing off the picturesque ski resort.

Fears were fueled earlier this month when protesters succeeded in staging a firework attack on the fortress-like congress centre where the meeting is based, damaging two windows. (can you say hardened bunker)

Local authorities have rejected a request to stage an anti-globalization protest on Saturday, the day Clinton is into town, allowing one only on the following day.

On Wednesday the umbrella group coordinating the anti-WTO protest announced that it will go ahead with the protest on Saturday.

"The demonstration scheduled for Saturday will be held, whether it is authorized or not," said a spokeswoman.

Other key players on the agenda include South African President Thabo Mbeki, British premier Tony Blair, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Jordan's King Abdullah.

Chinese deputy premier Wu Bangguo, heading Beijing's delegation in Davos, arrived in Geneva on Wednesday.

Israeli premier Ehud Barak is also on the schedule, although his office warned earlier this week that he might not come, since a trilateral Mideast mini-summit with Clinton and Arafat could not be organized as the US president is only in town on the Jewish Sabbath.

Hi Mike,

My guess is how to implement digital legal tender.

wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall in these meetings? most of these folks probably consider themselves as the "cream of the crop" and believe the average citizen is an idiot, doesn't know what is good for them, someone to take money and taxes from, and is expendible.

these aren't statesmen. these are the "elites" that that will, through semi-legal means, eventually create a form of government that gives them more power and more wealth. meanwhile robbing us of our rights and our financial resources.

I couldn't believe how many times y2k was mentioned in that article. It looks like the fat lady is starting to sing.

-- Billy Vyper (billy_vyper@postmark.net), January 27, 2000.

The only place where y2k seems to be an issue is in this forum.

It is appropriate the forum is called timebomb, very similar to when a movie is a dud, it is called a bomb.

y2k bombed out big time, and all the poor doomers are hoping for it to somehow become a hit. Well, this "bomb" died on 1/1/2000 and nothing will resurrect it.

Mr. Sane, calm down now. It's NOT y2k.

Repeat: IT IS NOT y2k. It can't be. It shouldn't be, so it can't be.

Actually it's

"SHSIOAAFOUOSMBACDC"

which stands for "Statistically High Significant Accidents And Failures Of Unknown Origin Some Months Before And After The Century Date Change". Good enough for your health Mr.Sane?

-- George (jvilches@sminter.com.ar), January 27, 2000.

Thanks George, i'm always calm. That would be a good name actually SHSIOAAFOUOSMBACDC, it looks and sounds like bullshit!

-- Mr. Sane (hhh@home.com), January 27, 2000.

Mr.Sane, the situation is far worse than what you suggest. After all you live in deep BS so you know that at least people like you are able to survive that sticky, smelly ordeal. But actually, it's far worse than that. Simply put, it's $30+ dollar oil Mr.Sane, which can make the world economy come apart at the seams.

And the way it looks, $45-50 dollar oil could be "coming down the pike".

By the way Mr. Sane, don't make waves because in your deep BS scenario it would mean you have to swallow it Sir, and I'm sure it's bad enough as it is, right?

-- George (jvilches@sminter.com.ar), January 27, 2000.

George, I thought you were joking, or being sarcarstic....You can't be seriuos

-- Mr. Sane (hhh@home.com), January 27, 2000.

I expect an eventual semi-successful attempt at a One-World government, but whether it will take place in my lifetime or in 1000 years when our civilization falls and another has arisen is up in the air in my view.

As to this event being out of the ordinary or signaling "something big coming down the pike", the article included these phrases that don't seem to fit with that: "an annual blue-chip summit...", and "The top-table annual conference ...", and "...this year's show, the 30th edition of the Davos meeting...".

This seems to be the 30th annual meeting, at Davos? So what is unusual? Do they have something new on their agenda that you know of?

Globalists are not new, and so far, they are not succeeding that well, in my opinion. For example, look at Jesse Helms' speech to the UN recently, publicizing and validating the "sovereignty-defending" position of many Americans (and angering some foreign diplomats, too). Something major has to change before globalists can take over, don't you think?

Bob Hormats was on CNNfn this morning, being interviewed from Davos. He is a mucky-muck at (guess where, Bob Rubin?) Goldman Sachs. Hormats was speaking of a recent topic he is writing about for the COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS: that the "North" (I think the CFR still calls the first world countries that?) will have to help the poorer countries get on board with all this Internet stuff. Hormats proudly displayed his new parka he bought over the Internet from a company in Australia, said parka being delivered to Hormats home in just a few days. He said governments should back off regulation of the Internet in order to allow full flowering of capital creation potential. Seems hard to believe CFR won't dictate policy for Internet.

Please look at www.dieoff.org Awful title but the thickest source of oil industry charts, papers and analysis I have yet found. Those of us who have been monitoring oil dependence (The Fossile Free Institute's AUTO FREE TIMES) as a matter of national insecurity looked at y2k as a quickening of awareness of inter-connectivity issues. NOw the focus is back to oil where it should be.

Also pay attention to what that unblinking reptile Forbes said at the "debate" last night in response to Keyes demanding the immediate dismantling of the failed WTO. Forbes said we must work harder to get the UK on board with us, stop discriminating against US farmers etc. That's double speak for "make the EU accept our genetically modified foods or else!" It's been a real stumbling block folks. It was one of the reasons for the WT0 riots. The Europeans don't want to eat this lab engineered crap. Neither do I. That's what they are discussing at this very moment in the summit in Montreal, the UN sponsored Bio Safety Protocols. Do a search on GM Foods or GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms.)Get your self educated on this subject. Our media wont tell you.

Tony Blair, our favorite socialist little toady friend of Bill has put Mo Mowlam, fresh off her failures in NI to be the EU pointman/ new "spokesperson" for Frankenfoods in the UK. To try to force the people to accept it without labeling. If companies are forced to label and reveal contents to the people of Europe, they'll eventually be forced to do it here too. "Contains only 5% GMO or less!!!" This will hurt sales and the stockholders. So far, they have kept sleeping Americans in the dark on this. What's on the agenda in Davos? This subject you can count on it. Nearly every bottled beverage (unless it's 100% juice) has corn syrup added. And what kind of corn went into your pop today? Greenpeace says: Tony don't suck Bill's seeds!

It seems to me that the NWO is already in full swing.

I mean, we all know that we can't trust the media, right? Any honest, decent reporter not being bought out by the Illuminati would have had the compunction to report on the eventual corrupting of the sheepish little minds of the public -- am I wrong? I mean, the press isn't FREE, we all know that.

Clearly, the true effects of Y2K are being hidden. I mean, I know that we original were saying that the effects of Y2K COULDN'T be hidden due to their catastrophic effects and their cascade of fundamental failures. But, hey, that just goes to show you how powerful the elite truly are, doesn't it?

And oil, I mean...LOOK AT OIL PRICES! Clearly this is an attempt to gut the working man of his livelihood, or the very least a channeling of all of our worst fears about the results of a Y2K meltdown. It simply can't be completely attributed to OPEC's ability to maintain their measly cartel. I mean, it just can't be!

The evil, controlling giants of our society have brought us to our present -- just look at ourselves. We live in the worst economic times imaginable. I mean, sure interest rates are low and the stock market is high, but look behind the picture, man! Surely things can't look this good unless they were REALLY BAD! Sure, crime levels and drug use are down, but that's just signs of the oppressive power of the police force, right? Surely there are sinister forces at work to create such a rosy picture of success while they plan the end for us all. Thank goodness we've caught it in time, and what irony that we spread the truth about these evil overlords on the Internet, a government project and a wellspring of their power!

Sounds suspiciously like the same roster of elitists that was lined up for Bilderburg meeting in Sintra this summer. Anyone else notice?

-- Gia (laureltree7@hotmail.com), January 27, 2000.

The almighty organization that runs the "global show" are called the "Fabians". This very powerful clandestine group`s homebase appears to be somewhere in England. These men control the worlds central banks, the Tri-lateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderburg Group, etc. The 500 year old Rothschild banking dynasty, with Patriach Felipe Rothschild currently at the helm, appear to call the shots. This family`s global "socialist" philosophy has been inserted into almost every industrilised country in the world. One of their appointed agents, Cecil Rhoades, the "Father of Oxford University", helped to indoctrinate many of the worlds past and present leaders (including our Bill) with this one world, one currency philosophy. The "Fabians", Freemasons by nature, allegedly do not exist according to some of the previously stated organizations. There is a good book which discusses some of this subject matter in detail called "The Secret World of Money" by Andrew Gause. Even if you believe none of this, it makes for a wonderful global conspiracy- Don`t ya think?
