**SHOTS FIRED AT PINE RIDGE SierraTimes.com has just received late word that shots have been fired at or near the Pine Ridge Tribal Offices. According to John E Hussman, KILI Radio has confirmed the shots, with reports of at least one person wounded at this time. This office has received at least one independent phone call stating the same information. The shots were reportedly fired at approximately 1:07 MT. Floyd Hand is now en route to the scene. FOX, Black Hills Not many answers in reservation homicide A Wanblee man is dead and federal authorities are investigating a homicide on the Pine Ridge Reservation. It happened in Kyle, according to the FBI. Agents say an arrest has been made, but they won't release any other information. According to the Rapid City Journal, a juvenile in is custody in the homicide, but federal prosecutors will neither confirm nor deny that. The Journal reports that the man killed is Richard R. Meat Randall, of Wanblee. Federal Prsecutors say they can't release information when a juvenile is involved. It is 2130hrs, Jan 26, and I just checked Wild Horse's site. I was unable to find anything about shooting. I have received several updates from Ishgooda on various topics, but nothing indicating shooting at Pine Ridge.

I'd like to see some more confirmation of this story.

The Grass Roots Oglala Lakota Oyate met at 2:00 AM after a Tokala was shot. The Tokala had left the perimeter without permission after receiving strict orders not to leave his post. The Tokala will be dealt with by leaders of the Tokala Society upon his return. Therefore we respect our fellow brothers and to call a standby alert due to the fact that we have elders, children and handicapped persons in the tribal building.

OCCUPATION PEOPLES' SECURITY MEMBER SHOT!!!!!

I just received a call from my relatives in the Red Cloud Tribal Building in Pine Ridge, SD......My father-in-law, Chief Oliver Red Cloud, and many of my family members are among the occupation People there......they were supposed to have a meeting tonite between the Grass Roots Oyate and the Tribal Council, monitored by the US Justice Dept Representative, but I was told that none of the Council members showed up for the meeting. After the meeting was over, one of the Tokalas - the Traditional warrior society, who are acting as Security for the Occupation People -- was on his way back from the area where they are having to park their cars, about half a block away from the Red Cloud Tribal Building, when he was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant. He has been taken to the hospital, his current condition is unknown. The Police are swarming all over at the moment, attempting to both protect anyone else from getting hurt and to find the assailant. There has been word coming out over the scanners that a second person has been shot as well, and at the moment "rumor" has it that the second person shot may have been the BIA Superintendent, Robert Ecoffey, who was on his way to the Tribal Building after hearing of the first shooting, however this has not yet been confirmed. I am awaiting further word.....

I have been told by my sister-in-law that word has gone out calling for any and all Tokalas from other Reservations to come to the aid of the Occupation People as Security Forces. It is not known at this moment exactly what the future will bring....

Again, I will ask for your Prayers for the People......the Grass Roots Oyate is comprised of many elders, including my father-in-law and a number of my other elder relatives...It is a tragedy that anyone has been hurt during what was to have been a PEACEFUL demonstration, and we pray that no one else gets hurt!

I will send updates as I receive them, and will be sending out Press Releases to the same contacts as before, and will be watching for any updates that anyone else receives as well......The national media has consistently ignored any coverage on this issue - I was contacted by both CNN & MSNBC after sending the Press Release on 1/21/2000 and gave them all the information to contact the spokespersons for the Grass Roots Oyate, but to date there has been no contact that I am aware of. THIS STORY NEEDS TO BE TOLD!!!!!! I urge any and all of you to make whatever media contacts you can possibly make to assist in getting this story out!!! Call your local TV stations, radio stations, newspapers -- ask that the true facts are reported!
