1. If Santiago took Angela's virginity, then why didn't Bayardo avenge the loss of her virginity?

2. Would the Vicario brothers have killed Santiago if they were sober?

The Vicario brother's would not of killed Santiago, becuase they used the booze as a crutch to get up the nerve . When one of the brothers were waivering about killing Santiago they both turned to the booze to build up thier courage. They had continuously verbalize to everyone what they had planned , as to build up thier courage too.

I feel that Bayardo being the erogent, wealthy man with native predudices. He knew that his new bride had been violated but did not know who . So being a man of such character and status of an aristocrate, that this situation was such a harsh blow to his ego. He became depressed, devastated ,repressed, mostly broken hearted and he just gave up He had no will to go on He could not except this unclean women He had no other recourse but to return the used goods. I also feel he knew Angela;s brothers hate for this Arab.

The brother's most definately would have killed Santiago if they were sober. Although most murders are the result of the person being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, we are dealing with an issue of family honor. To the the Vicario family, Santiago has left a mark of disgrace on their family name whether he actually committed the unflowering of their sister or not.
