image to c.d.

I want to put several thousand images onto c.d.-r. several thumbnail type programs allow a linking of thumbnail image to full image, but i worry about the long term reliability and availability of these programs. what are some good techniques for building a c.d. database that is logical and easily searchable?

There are many possible ways of achieving this. One is to build your CD as a web site. This would make it usable on many platforms now, and for the forseeable future (there are billions of pages on the WWW, so we can assume that browsers will be able to read them for some time).

For searching, I think you need thumbnails, say 20 to 50 per page, and text indexes. I personally like three image sizes: thumbnail, screen (say 750x550), and full-size.

It doesn't matter what software you use to build the CDs, because (with the web approach) you don't need that software to read it.
