burnt vcd but wont play correctly on pioneer DVD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

i captured an avi usint avi_io from my asus v6600 video card

i encoded into mpg (VCD ntsc) using xing

I used Nero 4.0.7.5. to burn vcd (it accepted as vcd 2.o compliant)

when i try to play it in my pioneer dv-c302d it recognizes that it is a video cd and plays, but the image is green and blocky. you can only see about the top half and it is very blocky. only about the top third moves. the audio skips very badly.

my dvd/vcd/cd player sais in the manual that it will play cdr/cdrw media. it plays cdrw audio cds just fine.

i have also tried to encode the mpg using lsx, panasonic, Ulead mpg real time mpg capture, and avi2mpg1 with no success.

i have tried to burn more than one track.

i have tried burning at 1x

Any other suggestions?

I am facing the somewhat similar problem with my Philips DVD 725, though not as bad as in your case. I get better picture but the vcd is not smooth on the whole. I have sent my set back to Philips for their investigation.

Looks like some DVD players aren't fully compatible with CDR despite their claim.

Do you have the NTSC/PAL settings set correctly on the software and the player?

That version of Nero has a problem creating Video CDs. According to their tech support it is "with some CD-R drive" but my experience is that the problem is with all drives. They claim to be working on a fix.
