Kodak DC280 and Windows 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I just purchased the Kodak DC280 and I use Windows 2000. And as one might imagine the software that came with the camera does not fully function. The Kodak camera controls software seems to work ok, but the device driver will not install. I can get the images from the camera via serial port, but USB will not work. The PhotoDeluxe Bus. Edition crashes on various clicks of the menu, but I have managed to get parts of it to work.

I am aware that the software manufactures have stated that the software is only compatible with Win98, but I am trying to stay on the bleeding edge.

My question is, does anybody know of photo editing software that is soon to be released for Windows 2000. I have had no luck checking with Kodak on driver upgrades for 2000 so that I might get USB connectivity to work.

Please help!

Just a suggestion, it probably won't work.

Try the Windows NT drivers (if supplied). Windows 2000 is SUPPOSED to be more like NT than 95/98, in fact it was supposed to be the long awaited NT5 in another guise.

IMHO it never pays to be first in line to try out new software, especially an operating system. Thanks for beta-testing it for the rest of us! :^)

Yeah I would try the NT drivers until 2000 drivers are released. Most companies I have emailed have stated that until 2000 is released ( Feb. 17) that the drivers will not be available. I used 2000 with some NT 4 drivers and frankly they worked fine. Don't you dare use the 95/98 drivers as they will freak out the OS. Win 2000 is like NT4 in the sense that it doesn't use .vxd's, virtual device drivers, and NT will keel over at their mere sight. The 2000 stuff is right around the corner but for now you have to go serial or use a parallel Flash card reader. Good luck
