Gas at Pump jumped

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Wichita...My husband left at 2:45 and gas at the Quick-Trip and Total station was $1.19 on the sign. He just came home at 6:30 and the price at the Quick Trip had jumped to $1.29, and Total was still $1.19. It usually follows Quick-Trip by a few hours. Phillips 66 is usually about an hour behind Quick-Trip.

Hey you all. Here in southwest lower Michigan, The station I usualy use has been in the habit of jumping 8 to 12 cents a gallon then sliding back down a penny or two at a time for a couple of weeks then a week of steady prices then boom, up again. This has been going on for over a year now. They went from 1.349 to 1.469 on thursday of last week and are now back down already to 1.399. Lately they haven't been going back down quite so far before the next jump so we are up 20 cents over the last two or three months.

Someone recently posted that if oil were following inflation that a barrel of oil would be $60 and gas would be $3.00 or more per gallon. Using the same logic, the computers you are using would be much closer to $10,000 then to $1000 by now. Productivity improvments have made the largest impact on keeping both gas and computers well below inflation. Does anyone remember $3500 dual floppy XTs with 64k of ram and ega video? Now you can get a high end pentium for half of that.

People are paying more in gas taxes right now then gas and taxes were in the mid 60's.

It's a buck and a half here in Massachusetts, and that's for the cheap stuff.

About a week ago it was $1.14 and jumped to $1.24 then fell to $1.19...today the jump to $1.29. Question....Security just called here and said alarms were going off where my husband works. She couldn't get through to him. I told her how and then I did a follow up call. He said the intrusion alarms and sprinkler alarms are going and he can find no trouble. The key pad is setting them off and he can't stop them. Is this a computer glitch?

Mary Jo,

You may want to start a new thread with that info, and keep us up to date on the resolution/cause.
