Another Anecdotal Yet True Post

Dear Friends,

I know some of you detest anonymous, anecdotal posts, so if you are of that ilk, please move on to the next post.

I work for a public educational agency which operates a continuation type high school. Today was the first day of the Spring 2000 semester. I happened to visit the enrollment office, and they informed me that the computer system was down, and the school was in "chaos." Teachers didn't know who they had in their classes, students didn't know where to go, etc.

I asked if "they" were "working on it." The principal told me that they had been in contact with the software company, and were informed that this problem was not limited to our school. Others using the same program were also "down."

Of course, it would be jumping to conclusions to assume that this is automatically a "Y2K" problem, but...?

Are there any other school-type people who have had problems with student software???

Live long and prosper....

PS: Another matter. Our telephone system was not fully upgraded. It is operating in the year 1984, and has begun to do some strange things, like mix up day and night...

Answers

Obviously not a Y2k problem. Y2k has presented absolutely no problems, right? 100% coincidence. :)

Even if I had been asleep for the past few years, I would still "wake up" to see a number of occurences happening at the same time.

I would have to think they potentially might have a connection?

Personally, I'd guess it might be the digits.

I think we are starting to see some unravelling of the fabric.

We can only hope TPTB saw it too, and the spin machine works overtime until things are corrected. I do have an inherent trust in my fellow man and woman. I think they have an incrediable ability to find "work arounds", people get together and solve things as fast as they can. Somehow, I can only thank them for where we find ourselfs now.

THANKS, I am continually surprised and thankful, so far.

As I posted earlier, we had a supply problem with a major company. Went to dentist today and his computer cannot figure payroll. We had a good time comparing glitches. It won't be funny if our supplier isn't straightened out by the next time we call.

Thanks Everyone,

It is AMAZING to me how the media always reported "NO Y2K PROBLEMS ANYWHERE" (of course they've dropped Y2K by now) yet in the nitty- gritty of the work place, most have experienced at least minor glitches. Why don't they at least report that?

Last night on the news, they reported about the price of oil going up, but said nothing about possible underlying causes. Why?

They are not Y2K related....because all glitches are now listed as FRED ;-)

The other shoe has NOT dropped yet. That which is happening with oil, the market, and the 10,000 little glitches we only hear about anecdotally is IMO just the first whiffs of unraveling of the web of our society that we will see this year. I continue to A) live in the boonies, and B) "prep like it's (late) 1999".
