WELCOME BACK GARY! YOU DA MAN IN MY BOOK!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was starting to get concerned that Gary had thrown in the towel. He was posting 3 or 4 times a week and making no pithy comments (I always loved his dry and biting commentary). I just went to his site and found about 8 new postings with new and helpful information. Welcome back GAry! You have nothing to hang your head about! You helped motivate the WORLD to spend lots of bucks and work REAL hard and avoid Apocalypse! You da man!

-- I am only speaking partly toungue in cheek. I do highly respect Dr. North and appreciate his role in averting disaster. TAKE THAT YOU BUNCH OF LOW-LIFE TROLLS THAT MAY BE READING THIS!

We second that!!!! Changed our way of living forever and we are grateful to now be PROactive and not reactive like the rest of the sheeple!! Have Gary North to thank for that :)

i third that. boop

Regardless if you like him or hate him, Gary North is responsible for getting people to THINK. That is not an easy task in this era of television, video games and crap like Pokemon. The sheeple are easily distracted and sometimes you must blow smoke and fire at them to get their attention.

While I do feel that a good chunk of his material was incorrect or extreme, the end result was magnificent. Galvanizing the masses to think about their own safety and survival was the bottom line of Y2K prep. Dr North did this better than almost anyone.

Irving: Somehow I think he would appreciate your comments more than anyone's. Yes, he did make people think. The old saying goes, "make them love you or hate you, but don't let them ignore you." Dr. North did a good job of refusing to be ignored and forcing people to come to terms with the y2k issue. I hope he keeps it up and does not allow himself to be intimidated by the "spin-masters" and trolls.

It was obvious that North wanted very badly for the current society to collapse. It will be interesting to see what his spin on things is now, but his hour has passed. He will retain some hard core fans, but he will never regain his former influence, such as it was, nor will he ever be able to live down or escape from his y2k debacle.

You are probably right, Forrest, and I would find it difficult to dispute your calm and reasonable manner. However, I enjoyed his pithy comments and found his web site to be invaluable as a time saver in searching on info. No one is perfect.

Well, he was one of the ones who sure helped get me thinking. Oh boy, talk about dependencies and JIT. And I thought what I do in I.T. forced me to think things through logically! Uh huh...

Did he want society to collapse? I really doubt it. How many would have paid attention if he would have said, 'well, maybe, possibly we might have a few wee hiccups'?

What will never be known is how many times his writings and articles lit a fire under those who had to get their bosses serious about budgeting time and dollars for remediation. I strongly suspect more than a few.

Perhaps one of his most valuable contributions was to get some of us thinking a lot more about self-reliance, and about critically evaluating what we're being told (spun?).

You're right, Gary North made you think... It took me a while to warm up to his attitude, but after I understood that he honestly believed in the warning message, I became a fan. If nothing else, I too have learned how tenuous and fragile the "society" is. And as Dr. North stated in a recent piece, I have learned which of my friends I will be able to count on when the chips are down, and which are the "sheeple", who believe everything they hear in the media. I for one will have water stored in my basement, as long as I have a basement.

Gary North is a big fat idiot

-- Mr. Sane (hhh@home.com), January 25, 2000.

Gary North is an average sized, lean genius.

Gary North was about 2-3 years behind corporate America when it came to Y2K. We started loooooong before he saw the money........

Give credit where it's due.

JoseMiami, I agree with your assessment of Dr.North. Although he does appear to have at least some alterior motives, his website was and is invaluable and his comments enlightening. Mr.Covington, don`t count your chickens, there`s still another 340 days left in 2000!

-- NoJo (RSKeiper@aol.com), January 25, 2000.

Hey Gary even made a "pithy" comment on one of his posting today! I think the growing number of disasters and accidents are breathing new life into him! (friendly smile) YOU DA MAN GARY!

By-the-way, In response to an earlier thread, Jim Lord emailed me and let me know that he has been down with the flu, in addition to a couple of wedding in his family. It was a very nice note.
