An Observation: Digital Video capture

Hello...

I've had a Web site now for a couple of years, and the main time-burner in maintaining it is scanning images. I've used various techniques; they all take too much time. I'd rather do sand sculpture, or go for a hike, than work on Web pages. So, last week I bought a digital video capture card. I planned to acquire images from my DV camcorder, and hoped that the images would be half-decent. They're actually pretty good. Much better than I expected, and good enough for my purposes. For those of you who'd like to save some time, consider this option if you have a Firewire-equipped DV camcorder. Image capture is easy; it took about ten minutes to acquire and process 6 images. If you'd like to see the pages, go to www.sandhands.com/library/sculplog/2000/cat00f01/00f01rpt.htm or www.sandhands.com/library/sculplog/2000/cat00f02/00f02rpt.htm

These images aren't of inspiring quality. They are, however, good enough for the catalog's purpose in that they show what the sculpture looks like. For high-quality images I'll stick with the scanner. --Larry
