HAVE GAS CAN - WILL TRAVEL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In 1970 I needed to get from LA to SLC ASAP so I could get a job. I took a 5-gallon gas can and started walking. Never held out my thumb. 14 hours and 27 rides later, I was in the place I needed to be, got the job and worked there for 4 1/2 years.

Only two of the pick-ups were pissed. Most thought it was a super idea.

I still think I was a genius...

Joseph, I think you were pretty brainy, too. 1970, BIG SIGH! What a wonderful world it once was . . .

Folks, Joseph just explained what American Know How is all about. Surprised you don't have your own Fortune 500 company by now.

Someday, I'll tell you about my 7th wife. I'm going to bed now. Tudahloo...

Never mind the 7th wife ... I want to hear how you made it that far with only one can of gas. (:

Joseph, I can understand the rides TO the nearest gas station, but how did you manage rides AWAY from gas stations?

-- Brooks (brooksbie@hotmail.com), January 23, 2000.

Joseph never bought any gas. He walked away from the gas station after his last "ride" drove away. He walked further down the road until his next "help" came by. Pretty smart. Worked out good for you! Pass it on...
