NO BS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I don't know if gas stations are empty. Neother do you unless you've pulled up to one or heard it from someone you KNOW wouldn't lie to you about something like that. Doomers, Pollies, Trolls: "Why can't we all just get along?" Don't post inflamatort BS. Please. There is too much at stake. I'm not making any conclusions on anything posted recently and I'm defineately not flaming anyone. I'm just asking that you do a gut-check with your concietence before you post BS and freak out an awful lot of people. God Bless you one and all!

Answers

Nobody's posting BS. Except maybe you. These problems are real, and just because the pollies want to disrupt the place doesn't make them any less so.

hal, I never said it was BS. I hope it is but I'm afraid it isn't. Regardless, as I stated B4, I'm not calling anything BS or, on the other hand, verifying anything I can't possibly verify. All I'm asking is that all involved - Doomers, Pollies, Trolls - be honest. My little two year-old just got into the Disney classic Pinnochio. Discover it again for the first time! I forgot Jimminy Cricket's message until recently. I'll bet you have too. "Let your conscience be your guide." & "Give a little whistle."

dang, I can't get the hang of this html!

OK; here's the truth.

Many gas stations around the country, for a variety of reasons, are out of gas. No evidence whatsoever for a larger global oil crisis of any kind. Oil prices do fluctuate, as does supply and demand, as does the weather.

You're welcome.

ImSo, a few questions: 1) Is it common for various gas stations around your country to be out of gas? I'm a Canadian and have never, ever seen a gas station out of gas. Then again, I never comprehended the American line-ups, fist fights and shootings in 1973-4 while I continued to fill up whenever the guage got to 1/4. 2) Is it common in your country for several gas stations to be empty wothin a few minutes drive of each other (weather not being a factor)? 3) Is it common in your country for empty gas stations to have a tanker show up and tell them they can only get half filled because there are more empty stations down the road? 4) What other aspects in your country resemble the Third World? Merci beaucoup, mon ami!

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

David, With all due respect, my state of mind is irrelevant to both this thread and the participants of this forum. My questions are relevant. Is this common or not? Are we seeing the first signs of a petro problem in the US of A, or is this a local problem, or are the previous threads Bull Sh*t, or do you have another reasonable explanation. "... and always let your conscience be your guide!"

David, Sweetie, it's Saturday and all the losers who couldn't get dates (including moi) are hanging out on this board. Some posters have been drinking; others haven't taken their meds today and probably won't take them tomorrow.

Please understand that gasoline is as vital to some folks as chocolate: take away either and you'll have more than fist fights on your hands.

Now, I'm going to bed, too. Maybe by the time I get back online tomorrow, the sysop with the huge, pink pooper scooper will have gotten to the rest of this trash.

Got fuel? Got chocolate? Got a good night.

*kiss*

Paranoia:

I think that Hal initially misunderstood the point and intent of the 'Question' with which you started this thread. I did. All the trolling keeps us a bit on edge I guess. Also, are you French Canadian? You have a somewhat unusual syntax to us down here.

In answer to your question just above:

I don't recall hearing about fuel related problems of this intensity down here except during the oil crisis of the early-mid 70's. There were some problems during the Iraq/Gulf war, but nothing like what we're reading and hearing about today.

The really unique part of this is the speed with which problems are popping up. It was much more gradual in the 70's. Perhaps some control over the situation will be gained in the next couple of days. Our west coast doesn't seem to be having any problems right now.

We'll all see within the next few days. Is this just a temporary 'spike', a passing glitch in the oil supply? Or the beginning of a real fuel crisis? We'll see. Clearly some mighty forces are being brought to bear on some mighty problems. Great history is unfolding, but its ultimate shape remains unclear.

Tim, thanks for the respone. My whole point of starting this thread was to try and make people think before they casually throw up BS on TB2K without thinking of the consequences of their actions. It's very easy for doomers, pollies & trolls to fabricate stories to justify their position or, in the case of trolls, to stir up the pot. Regardless, I believe that this forum allows us to get infornation I won't see on CNN or CNNfn.com or CNBC or The New York Times or The Globe & Mail, etc. I just hope that people will think about the potential damage they could do to people who read their BS and believe it to be true "and always let their conscience be your guide!"
