High in the cold southwestern sky, the belted hunter Orion pursues his eternal prey. Far below, a barge recently loaded with kerosene makes its way along the moonlit channels from the waterfront terminal to the Hudson River. Though the bow of the barge and the stern of its tugboat are covered with an icy spray, the sure hands of a determined captain will steer the needed load to its destinations of Newburgh and Albany.

The day has seen the container ships come, and the container ships go, the tugs and barges come, and the tugs and barges go. Plying past the anchored tanker Coastal Houston, a recent visitor to the Harbor, the primary loads of today's barges appeared to be RMG products: unleaded RMG and premium RMG, although a few loads of ST were also noted. Destination points included Bridgeport, New Haven, and Providence.

Thanks for another pearl, Harbor Guy. I can feel the icy spray on a night like this.

This Harbor guy is quite impressive, excellent prose! My wife writes, I read some of her literary mags, most of the writing yanks, and I know the good stuff when I see it.

Regards,

thanks harbor guy, your post are great, not only for what you say but what you make us feel... I feel the ocean and I am in the middle of west texas...it is nice...know a few pumpers out this way and cording to them all is ok, except for the wind the drought and the blowing sand LOL

Harbor Guy is missing his calling :o)

If you want to read a good book about boats and the water read Grey Seas Under by Farley Mowat. It is about Deep Sea Salvage during the Uboat raids off of Newfoundland. Riviting stuff if you love the water.
