There is too much at stake...money!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Have you ever thought about why the noise level has increased dramatically with the trolls suddenly appearing - why would they come to a Y2k board when there is seemingly no Y2k problem.

But there is an oil problem - and it is increasing in size every day and TPTB must be getting concerned about the data which is circulating on the net. This is where the action is regarding truth and on-the spot witnesses...where we get the feeling something is wrong and are trying to make sense of it.

If the trolls can stop this by making fun of people's posts, whether factual or not, supported by URLs or not, then they are shutting down the main channel of information we have come to depend on. We all make up our own minds on what is happening and how we will react to it, but the info needs to come to be able to do that.

And the Oil industry as a whole and the governments which support it do not want us to know what is happening - they think we should not know as it may cause harm to the bottom line - which is their power and their money. Don't get me wrong - I am a shareholder in several oil companies and want things to go well, but if it comes to where people are put in danger because they have no heating oil, or their place of employment blows up, then there is the need to know. I don't know that this price increase in oil has been manufactured or orchestrated by anyone in particular or if it is a series of incidents, but I do know that those in control will do anything they can to keep it that way, including having those trolls (the intelligent ones at least - we can tell the difference) try to disrupt the flow of information. The others may just be a little scared at seeing something they have no control over.

---short answer. I think that this oil deal right now is a 50/50 combination of manipulation at the higest levels AND just plain confusion over the real impact of y2k on the huge supply train that gets refined product from millenia old rotten organic matter in the ground, into our tanks. I think the big boys were caught up in a little "denial" on their part, they just can't believe that sometimes they give an order and it isn't followed through 100%. No matter that they were told that it would be followed out-the order to "fix it". "It" doesn't appear to be "fixed", at least not in any reliable totality. The publically available empirical and anecdotal "facts" are not corresponding with a "fixed" state of reality. So-o-o, the combination of "normal" insider shenanigans, with the added "benefit" of a major WHOOPS!.

Most interesting events, and super glad I prepped. Think it's coming in handy now, and handier in the near future. Events will unfold.

IMHO, that says it all. Thanks a lot!

IMHO, these troll attacks of late (mostly since the first of the year) seem to be highly ORGANIZED.

The pattern seems to be that they post long, long documents, copies of articles, correspondence, etc. They continuously use the word "scary" in their posts. They make a statement, and then they ask the question, "What do you think?" They seem to be baiting us to be setup so another troll (or they themselves under other names) can come back and attack us. One troll often replies to another's post instantly (often with equally long posts including attachments). Are they trying to overload the system?

My guess is that these trolls belong to some sort of agency, college psychology/marketing/or public relations class project or they are just a group of extremely bright, well-educated people who are doing this for some reason (other than being purely obnoxious). These trolls concern me more than the crude, nasty, spammer posters. Perhaps some of them belong to both groups.

I've noticed that they often refer to psychological needs or reasons as to why a person would continue to be visiting or posting on this forum since the rollover has already occurred and not much has happened. What the he** does it matter to them? Why are THEY here? Are we their guinea pigs or their lab specimens? What is their *real* agenda?

America has always been a nation of freethinkers. Does it bother them that a group of such like-minded people have come together to exchange info, ideas, and viewpoints?

The internet can be and is a wonderful tool. Let's hope these turkeys will soon depart and leave us to our own private musings.

Laurane, Well said! I've only posted once before but have been following this site for a while. The mainstream media is not mentioning Y2K unless it's a "funny Glitch" that will make us all laugh. That being so, I also have wondered why some people have been following this since the rollover. Since to them "nothing happened" why the verbal attacks? If we are all just wasting our time, why the constant need to disrupt the flow of information? It makes me wonder. It makes me question their motive and intent.

Good concept, Laurane.

One of the concerns I have is the 'disinformation and discrediting' campaign of the type mounted against one regular poster.......disinformation because the attack is personal and centered on an aspect of the regular's life that has no bearing on the validity of the posts, discrediting because it attempts to negate input from one person.

This type of attack has been highly developed lately in the US political arena -- develop information that might discredit a source for some reason totally unrelated to the issue at hand, and then use the information in a scurrilous attack. In it's most blatant form, consider James Carville calling Paula Jones 'trailer trash.'

Another legacy from our current fearless leader :(
