Any experiences with Epson Perfection 1200Photo scanner

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I've already got an HP PhotoSmart S20 scanner which obviously allows me to scan 35mm negs/slides, but I'm looking for an economical way to scan medium format negs. The Epson 1200 Photo looks a bit too good to be true with a res of 2400 x 1200. Does anyone have any experience of the quality I could expect from this scanner for negatives? Also I'm not sure how much faster the SCSI option is over USB. Is the extra money worth it? Advice appreciated - thanks.

I obtained a Perfection 1200S a couple weeks ago. I don't have the film scanning lid yet, but am way happy with the quality of relected scans of prints, etc. Their new twain driver is very good.

I got to play with one of these Epson scanners for about 15 minutes at a hands-on demo. Colour quality from a 35mm negative was quite acceptable, straight from the scanner with no manual correction! Resolution was good enough for 7" x 5" printouts, and more than enough for web publishing. 1200dpi should give good scans from medium format and excellent ones from 5 by 4. (86meg files...hmmmm!)

I was really tempted by this all-rounder, and probably would have bought one if I didn't already have a flatbed and separate 35mm scanner. I still might get one if I can sneak it past the wife ;)
