Emergency call up Sorry for this news having to be sent.. I am now taking it on myself to place this emergency call up of any and every supporter. I received an email about 45 minutes ago asking me to call the Occupation Peoples at my earliest convenience. I went to call and the phones have been disconnected. I sent them an email asking for another contact number and advised them the phones were down. The reply from Pine Ridge is as follows Our phones have been disconnected. I do not know what we are going to do. we are getting nervous about the situation.Rumors that we are now being under attack are coming true. Can someone get a hold of the FCC in Washington. They are trying to cut off electricity in the building. Wildhorse do something. Please anyone that can help contact me as fast as you possibly can. Please all Native and Non Natives mobilize at your earliest ability. Our Brothers are now fearing for their lives.. I beg of all supporters to help. Wadv Wild Horse

I know some of you feel betrayed by the miscommunications and false messages that were sent in to all of you and to me during the beginning of this, was not my doing ... but this is for real.

e-mail ISHGOODA for verification if you want ....

ishgooda@voyager.net

No Hokie - they are the one that got things straightened out.

we now know where the falsehoods came from ... but that is not important at moment.

Wild Horse' Hang on we are saddleing up right now, help is on the way! I'm bringing the big boys with me. :o)

-- Airman (Intheclowds@sky.com), January 21, 2000.

I just placed a phone call to the Tribal Building and got a recording saying the 'Number Is Not In Service'. I then called another contact and spoke with the grandson of people directly involved (sorry, it is not my place to provide names and phone numbers). The grandson verified the phone cutoff and that there was a situation. IMHO, this should the first independent verification of this situation.

I am reposting today's Official Press Release here:

Here is a snip from it:

Due to reports received early this morning, the Grass Roots Oyate have barricaded themselves in the Tribal Building in an effort to protect the women and small children and elderly men and women inside. The group took control of the building in a peaceful manner and have a sacred c'anupa (pipe) inside the building. It is not the intent of the Grass Roots Oyate to incite violence. However, Gerald "Jump" Big Crow, Tribal Council member has attempted to gain access to the building on two occasions and has threatened physical violence.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 21, 2000

RED CLOUD TRIBAL BUILDING, PINE RIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION, SOUTH DAKOTA:

On January 20, 2000, the Grass Roots Oyate appeared before the Oglala Sioux Tribal Head Judge Patrick Lee in a hearing for court order to remove the Oglala Sioux Tribal Treasurer as the signatory at the First National Bank of Gordon, Nebraska. At approximately 3:30 p.m., the ruling was made in favor of the plaintiffs, the Grass Roots Oyate.

The Grass Roots Oyate is comprised of large number of Oglala Lakota Sioux that took peaceful control of the Red Cloud Tribal Building on January 16, 2000 for the sole purpose of protecting financial records that incriminate the Oglala Sioux Tribal Treasurer Wesley "Chuck" Jacobs and Oglala Sioux Tribal Council Members.

The Grass Roots Oyate are demanding the immediate removal of the Tribal Treasurer for years of gross misconduct and mismanagement of tribal funds allocated to the members of this great nation. Furthermore, they are seeking the suspension of the entire Oglala Sioux Tribal Council pending a referendum vote of the entire nation. We, the Grass Roots Oyate have witnessed many improprieties of Tribal Council Members. They have repeatedly violated their oath of office and their IRA Tribal Constitution.

Today, the Grass Roots Oyate will be submitting resolutions to the Secretary of the Interior demanding the following: 1. The suspension of the Tribal Council pending a referendum vote; 2. Request to have the Bureau of Indian Affairs assume temporary administrative authority to maintain critical financial services such as medical assistance, funeral services, and payroll.

Additionally, the group is submitting a request to the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs step in and takeover the investigation into the widespread corruption within the Oglala Sioux Tribal government.

Today the Department of Justice Representative Silke Hansen has requested a meeting between the Tribal Council and the Grass Roots Oyate to negotiate on our demands.

The Grass Roots Oyate stand by their beliefs that their demands are non-negotiable. The Tribal Council should know that until OST Treasurer Wesley "Chuck" Jacobs is removed and other demands are met that the Grass Roots Oyate will continue to maintain a peaceful monitor over the files in the Tribal Building.

The Grass Roots Oyate are currently experiencing a media black-out on the Pine Ridge Reservation. They stated that any assistance to get this press release out to the international community is greatly appreciated.

As with all my posts concerning the Oglala Pine Ridge Occupation feel free to forward this email in its entirety to any and all interested parties.

Rev. Thunderlight, will spread the word as far as possible. My prayers are with you and all of your family.

Rev. Thunderlight,

Why did you give Free Republic a more dramatic story than us last time? Do we get the dramatic story this time, or will I get a better adrenaline high reading your Free Republic version tonight?

http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3883fbb036bd.htm

- Finally, apparently late last night/early this morning, during the establishment of Martial Law, shots WERE fired. . The casino is heavily armed. Tribal Building occupants have no weapons, it is reported that the occupants did not even bring pocket knives into the building with them. Rev. Subject: Pine Ridge Occupation Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2000 21:36:15 -0500 From: ishgooda@voyager.net To: mctanner@tcinc.net

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 21, 2000

We, the occupants of the Red Cloud Tribal Village, are very concerned about the phone service being disconnected. We have contacted the headquarters of our phone service, in Wall South Dakota, inquiring as to why the service was disconnected. We were told the information could not be released. However, they did say that a Government official called them to request that the phone service be terminated and they complied.

We have also been contacted by the Nebraska Public Power. (they provide the electricity to our reservation) They have been requested to cut off the electricity to those people occupying the tribal offices.

We are becoming very concerned. The elders and women are asking that the children be removed from the tribal offices for safety reasons. There is a concern that a confrontation may ensue.

The Federal mediator, Silkie Hanson, is on her way back to Pine Ridge Reservation because of these developments. The people will feel more secure if a federal official is present- in hopes of preventing any violence that may occur.

With no telephone service our direct contact abilities are gone. As with all my posts concerning the Occupation Peoples in Pine Ridge. Please forward this to all interested parties in its entirety. Wadv Wild Horse

I was asked to verify/comment on the latest posts, so here are my comments. The situation is tense - the phone lines have been cut to the Tribal building. Please don't make the wild assumptions from this that people did earlier this week though. The actions are being taken by the former treasurer and the Tribal Councilmen who support him, NOT by armed troops etc. They have the athority as Tribal government to call the phone company and tell them to turn off the phones. As I say, it is tense, but we don't need to panic anyone. If people can come to assist and show support, then please do so. Mike

I also went back to the old thread and pulled this excerpt:

Call the Tribal offices yourself, (605) 867-5821.
-- River (Riverwn@aol.com), January 18, 2000.

Tried this number also, and it is "Not In Service"

-- Blue Hawk (bh_silentvoice@hotmail.com), January 21, 2000.

Hokie - Please ma'am .... can we PLEASE deal with bruised egos later?

I am getting ready to leave ... I have 400 miles to drive to Pine Ridge tonight.

I would not be doing that if this was not THAT bad.

-- hiding in plain (sight@edge of.nowhere), January 21, 2000.

Be safe on your journey. If you would like to talk to Crowhand before you leave, e-mail me and I'll give you his number....

Godspeed, hiding.

Ishgooda@voyager.net just sent me this:

"Our Brothers are now fearing for their lives." "It is not the intent of the Grass Roots Oyate to incite violence. However, Gerald "Jump" Big Crow, Tribal Council member has attempted to gain access to the building on two occasions and has threatened physical violence."

"There is [SIC] about 180 People Occupying the Tribal Offices currently."

"The Grass Roots Oyate are currently experiencing a media black-out on the Pine Ridge Reservation."

"The so called "news blackout" is just a case of nothing happening that interests the various news agencies very much."

"...the phones have been disconnected....They are trying to cut off electricity in the building."

"The actions are being taken by the former treasurer and the Tribal Councilmen who support him, NOT by armed troops etc. They have the athority as Tribal government to call the phone company and tell them to turn off the phones."

."...strictly an internal situation...If everyone leaves it alone...they know how to handle things just fine without outside meddleing...have NOT asked for outside support...outsiders getting involved..."

I can verify that I have received these appeals from Ishgooda on the Native American list. The lastest one I received was at 8:31 p.m. tonight.
