George Bush visits Kuwait?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

According to a report in yesterday's Iranian Newspaper, former President Geo. W. Bush arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday (18th) with plans to stay for a few days. Their take on his visit is that he's there to raise money for Geo.W.Jr's current presidential campaign. Maybe yes. Maybe no. As I am sure everyone is aware, a politician would sell their mother into prostitution to raise money. However, politics aside, would there be some other reason for this visit? Something to do with oil production, or to see first hand what the current situation is regarding the production of oil?

This is my first time actually posting anything so please don't flame me too badly. Just wondering what someone elses take on this would be.

Richard, You're probably more right on campaign finances than oil. I don't see that Bush would be able to evaluate that. He would, however, be able to make promises and collect funds. The Kuwaitiis must adore him.

Richard - it's to do with oil - Mara, do some invetigating on the net on the Bush family/cabal ties with big oil money, specifically he's in bed with our old friend Saddam Hussein... big time, still is too...

FWIW

George Bush and Son

Opening paragraph ......

Researchers looking into circumstances surrounding U.S.involvement in the Persian Gulf War have uncovered some disturbing facts about former President George Bush and his son, presently the Republican presidential front-runner.

Bush Sr. has SHITLOADS of money in Kuwait oil, which "came out" in the media when we began the Persian Gulf War. Rumor was at that time that he was risking US soldiers to defend his personal investment; the "jury" never came back on that one...all that came back was that staged interview with the "alledged" nurse saying Iraqi's put babies on the hospital floor. No one could figure out why this nurse didn't just pick up the babies already and put them BACK in the incubators...well, as it turns out, the "nurse" was some Kuwait princess or daughter of big wig "acting" and the writers of her script soley to gain American's support for Bush's actions never thought of that one intsy-wintsy detail...

-- Hokie (Hokie_@hotmail.com), January 21, 2000.

--my point being I peg him for just heading over to check on his investment.

-- Hokie (Hokie_@hotmail.com), January 21, 2000.

Hokie, if memory serves me, the girl turned out to be the daughter of an Iraqi Ambassador. She testified in front of some congressional committee. And we all know there is no finer group than a Congressional Committee.

-- Richard (Astral-Acres@webtv.net), January 21, 2000.

I recently heard or read an interview (and I wish I could remember where) of our good friend Peter Jennings where he said he was not there to deliver news but mould public opinion.

-- Interested Spectator (is@the_ring.side), January 21, 2000.

He's not raising foreign campaign funds for his son. Don't be idiots. That would be blatantly illegal (remember China?) and would torpedo his son's chances.

The Kuwaiti's adore him. In bed with Saddam? The same guy who tried to assassinate him last time he was in Kuwait?

Sheesh, you guys can hate the former president all you want, but you don't have to make up silly stuff about him.

Hokie and Richard, each of you got part of the story right and part wrong. As BigDog can verify, I worked for Hill and Knowlton when that whole incubator thing occurred and was exposed. It made the cover of Newsweek and was on "60 Minutes" and "20/20" the same week, and really did in H&K badly.

The girl was the Kuwaiti Ambassador's niece. The incubators were supposedly stolen by the Iraqis, which is why they supposedly tossed the babies on the floor...to get the equipment. (That is why the girl couldn't put the babies back in, Hokie...just joking!)

What was exposed in the media was this: H&K was the PR firm for Kuwait. They'd concocted this story to help push the USA into the war against Saddam...who wouldn't want their boys to fight for babies, and who would want their boys to fight for oil? The girl was flown in and out of Kuwait, so they could say she'd gotten out (implying with her life). She never saw any such thing. It was never told to the Senate Committee that she was the ambassador's niece.

When TSHTF, the media asked pointedly: should American policy about whether or not to go to war be dictated by the machinations of a PR firm?

Our office went from 180 to 12 within a year's time. I left at that time. Nothing happened to George Bush!

Elaine:

Thank you for that. The story I linked to above said as much.

If you choose to believe the media, you choose to stick your head in the sand, and you can't complain about what happens to you rear end.

A brilliant quote from an earlier thread:

The truth or lack of it.

A general forum for serious discussion of events in the news. Reasonable leeway for all points of view will be tolerated but malicious or purposely disruptive posts will be deleted without notice. John Swinton of the NY Times, at his 1953 retirement dinner at the NY Press Club, gave the reason for the need of forums such as this in his following speech: "There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before 24 hours my occupation would be gone. The business of a journalist is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell the country for his daily bread. You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting an independent press. We are the tools and vassals of the rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

Dog Gone - I can assure you that Bush has had major dealings with Saddamn for a long long time.

Why not investigate it for yourself - the best piece I saw on this was a Sunday Times article written about 10-15 years ago, befor the gulf war. Mind-blowing stuff.

It really is an open secret in gubbmint circles, better wise up, and soon, tou your lilly-white Presidents.

Andy,

Its just like Noeriega. Bush HAD close ties with Saddam. I just got through reading Spiders Web-The Secret history of how the White House Illegally Armed Iraq-Alan Friedman.

I'm predominately with Dog One on this one, BUT Bush and Baker did fund piles of money into Iraq to the tune of about $4billion, mostly CCC loans. When Iran was moving in toward the Gulf in the 8 year war with Iraq I could understand it, but most of the money flowed into IRAQ after the Iraqi/Iranian cease fire and after we knew Iraq was gassing the Kurds and developing all the mass weaponery they could. Bush took Iraq off the 'terrorist state' list and overrode a congressional bill to cut Iraqi funds. So I'm also partially with Andy on shenanigans IN THE PAST. They pinned the whole $4 billion gov backed boondoggle on some poor 35 year old banker smuck in Atlanta and announced it all when we were flying high from the Gulf War victory. But Andy, The Saudi Royal family owns the Saudi oil. The same with Kuwait. Payoffs? Maybe, but as usual, you go to far with your intl consortiums controlling everything theories.

Bottom line: The legacy of the Cold War? The Russians will elect exKGB honchos. The US will elect exCIA honchos and sons of CIA honchos and then we bitch when our politicians continue to operate in a covert and dishonest fashion with +$35 billion secret - no checks and balances- subgovernments.

Thanks DS - I wish i could post what I have read on Bush - and it goes way back, and it involves bringing him[saddam] to power and all the rest, and it involves big money in Texas... and it involves why saddam wasn't taken out clinically when his nation was bellyup...
