Communication Glitches: Phone, fax & computer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

Educational When the office of "Promoting Enduring Peace" in New York City was opened for the first time after Y2K (on January 2nd) the phone and fax did not work, and the computer would not connect to the internet. There are still some problems as of today, January 20th. Long hours have been spent trying to obtain information and restore service. This information was told to me by the person directly involved, Janet Cuevas, of "Promoting Enduring Peace".

Carole:

That's interesting because my phone and fax worked just fine. I've been connecting to the internet every day since January 1 without a problem. Do you think that maybe there's something wrong with their equipment in particular since everyone else's computer, fax, and phones work?

A number of older phone and voice mail systems were not y2k compliant, a problem which was rare but noticeable. Many of these systems were replaced. It is not a surprise that a non-profit would not be able to spend money to have theirs checked out.
