The look of the new OK suits.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

Recently there has been some discussion concerning the design for the new OK suits. Not that many people have been involved, although there are a lot of strong opinions being expressed. I am somewhat mystified as to why the discussion is taking place via email and not on the OK Forum. Shouldn't the topic of discussion be open to a fair number of people?

The plan as it now stands is to keep the colors of the suits the same as the present. There has been discussion about what to embroider on the suit or whether to put patches on. Many people want Orienteer Kansas on the back. One person is adamant that the OK logo NOT appear on the suits. There is the fact that more things on the suit will raise the cost. The state of affairs might be rather different from this, of course, because I don't know if I have received all of the mail on this issue.

Why don't we discuss things a bit on the OK Forum?

I guess the discussion forum is a fine place to talk OK suits. But, at the same time, I think that the basic design questions probably ought to be handled unilateraly by OK's President (Mary). I have complete confidence that any decisions she makes will be good ones.

I have seen samples of the materials and even the embroidery. Jeannie Walsh mail samples to Mary. The blue is not quite the same as on the existing suits. But, the combination of blue-black-white looks good. The embroidered letting looked sharp, too. The embroidery is more expensive than a screen print. But, the embroidery will last longer and won't fade or wear off.

From what I've heard (and my own experiences with supplex) the material Jeannie uses is better than the usual flimsly nylon that is used in most O' suits.

I still like the pink and blue. Maybe it's because I was the 'father' of that color scheme. Or we could do a Kansas type of color scheme with green/yellow/brown (like in a sunflower). I suppose I could form a splinter club and have a custom suit made.

Jeannie Walsh will make custom suits -- with a minimum order of one. In fact, I would think she'd even make just a top or just pants.

You can contact her at c-needle@ma.ultranet.com

We'd much rather see you in a non-standard O' suit than starting a splinter club!

Wouldn't I get into trouble if I ran in just a top?
