kicking off the discussion

let's see if this works for everyone.

Thinking about it, I'd argue that the "therefore be it resolved's" need to include three components:

1 "fix these simple things immediately" 2 "seriously study big issues like health insurance, with a deadline for a report" 3 "commission a "Spouse/Partner Assistance Program," the first step of which is to study what institutions with similar challenges have done, again with a deadline for report and action."

This is the Partner Assistance Program that Gettysburg College uses. We might find some ideas in it that we could apply to our situation here at Truman. marc.

-----------------------------

Partner Assistance Program for New Faculty and Administrative Appointments

Who qualifies as a partner: An adult who would be moving with the job applicant and would influence the applicant's decision to move here.

What does the program do: help the partner of the new employee obtain local employment, and become a member of the College community.

The program consists of the following:

1. Provision of information about the area and its employers to partners. 2. Distribution of partner's cv or resume to relevant Gettysburg College departments or administrative divisions. 3. Careful consideration given to hiring qualified partners as adjunct faculty; part-time coaches; or in other part-time administrative positions. 4. Careful consideration of partners for temporary administrative and faculty positions at the College. 5. For those with faculty credentials, the right to request appointment as an Associate Fellow. 6. Use of the services of the Career Services Office by the partner. The partner receives the same services as Gettysburg students and alumnae receive, i.e., help with resume writing and interviewing skills, assistance in accessing the various resources of the Career Services Office. This assistance is provided until the person finds a satisfactory position, or for a period of two years, whichever is shorter. 7. Provision to the partner of a Gettysburg College ID card which entitles the holder to use of the library, all College athletic and fitness facilities, the College Store, the specialty dining hall and entrance to all College events.

Hello Natalie, and all --

For spouses, let's see: a. Rec Center privileges b. Full library privileges c. University email privileges d.

My mind is going, but I am a decent 'whereas' writer, once I pull the info together...

We could also add Natatorium access, but it may already exist. If so, we could use it as precedent for other requests. Another thought -- Since me know the names of the three Truman faculty sitting on the Consortium Board -- Ray Barrow, Randy Haggerty, and Carol Cox, we, as individuals or as a group, could email them our concerns. We could also include their email addresses on threaded health care discussion at the University.
