HOUSTON (AP) - Continental Airlines has begun adding a $10 surcharge for one-way flights and $20 for round trips in an attempt to recoup spiraling fuel costs.

"Our cost for aircraft fuel in the fourth quarter of 1999 rose 49.7 percent over 1998," Ms. Villalon said. The company spent $259 million on fuel in the last three months of the year.

FedEx is implementing a temporary fuel surcharge of 3 percent on all U.S. and international FedEx delivery services, effective February 1, 2000.

Anyone know of other companies starting this surcharge?

But, but.....but.....but....this sounds inflationary, and our government says we ain't got inflation.

How could it be?

Shipped a package UPS today. Invoice had an extra line printed for fuel surcharge, but charge was $00.00. Pickup was at my office in downtown San Francisco rather than at home. UPS is there several times a day for deliveries. Anyone else?

Add American Airlines to the list.

4X4 It appears these surcharges have been in the works for a while, I've never noticed a fuel surcharge on an invoice from UPS. Is that a NCR (preprinted multi-part) invoice, or computer generated bill?
