Poll: What is the cost of gasoline in your part of the county?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Greetings All, I purchased my gasoline supply at less than 99cents/gallon. As the temperature in the southeast is not very cold, and Y2K seems to have done little to the power supply in our area I have started using some of my fuel supply set aside for emergency power. (We have a gas generator.) I think it will be 2 months before we need to stop at the local gas station if I use it all up. As I haven't been to fill up I am not sure that the latest fuel prices are in my area. Our home is in NE Georgia so I see Tenn and GA prices frequently. Last price I recall seeing was about $1.07 in GA for regular and about $1.21 in TN. Question 1: What does a gallon of regular Gas cost in your part of the Country/World? Question 2: How much do you think the price of a gallon will rise in the US after two months? (If I pay $1.07 now how much will it cost in 2 months?) Question 3: Should I be using my Y2K supply of fuel now or wait?

Thanks, Cheap

Northern Ohio: average - $1.349 for 86 Octane, $1.449 for 89 Octane, and $1.549 for 92 Octane

Good idea Cheap!

I am near Houston, TX, and my husband filled up on Monday for $1.15. I am going out later to fill up and will post the difference, if any. If everyone can post a comparison(say, last week vs. today)it will give us a better picture than current prices vs. speculation for March prices.

-- Just Curious (jnmpow@flash.net), January 19, 2000.

---h-m-m-m-m north central georgia getting ripped. Our closest "station" was 1.34$ for premium the other day. Of course, this is in the stix at a feed store, too, not sure what it is in "town", and don't use regular in our older vehicles, regular and you can hear valve chatter/ping action under load going uphill. Chainsaw likes premium, too. I did ask the dood if he was gettin hit with any increases, he said "not yet".

1.41 for regular unleaded here in the Seattle Area.

-- (formerly@nowhere.zzz), January 19, 2000.

In south puget sound, 1.39 to 1.40 a gal for unleaded.

The suggestion is that gas (from european sources and for europe) will be at greater than 5 USD per gal in two months (mid march).

Fondly remember georgia peaches from ft benning days....

I filled my tank yesterday here in Gainesville, (North) Florida for $1.29 a gallon for 87 octane unleaded. That's probably about two cents a gallon cheaper than the average price in the county just at the moment.

We'll be rotating our fuel stores but won't be drawing them down like we'd originally planned. This is about double the normal amount we have historically kept on hand.

Central Ohio: as of the other day, when I filled up, $1.28 regular at Shell, $1.38 plus.

I think a better gauge of dealer costs is when the cheapo gas discounters (around here, Certified, SuperAmerica, Clark) price their gas closer to the big national chains, and that seems to be happening more lately.

Minneapolis: $1.40 for standard grade, $1.53 for premium.

-- Dennis (djolson@pressenter.com), January 19, 2000.

Hubby filled up yesterday at a convenience store that sells 'generic' gas. Paid $1.39 for regular (87 octane).

Got heating oil bill yesterday, $1.129 per gallon. Not the highest I've ever seen, but this has been the WARMEST winter I've ever seen in all m'born days.

BTW, this is upstate NY, west of the Adirondacks, east of Lake Ontario.

Price of gas has been inching up since New Year's, but nothing dramatic yet. That fuel oil bill's got me irritated, though. Should be MUCH lower considering the very mild temps...

Geez, you guys are getting a good deal compared to us in Northern California. Unleaded is 1.43 to 1.49 and premium is 1.59 to 1.65. Unless you're unlucky enough to need gas in San Francisco where you'll pay something on the order of 15 cents a gallon more. Out gas prices have at or near this level for over a year due to (they say) refinery problems that occured last year.

We should be so lucky!

In SW Ontario (that's Canada for you America-centrics)Regular gas jumped from 62.7 to 68.8 cents/litre in the past 2 days (Given the 3.5 litres/US Gallon and today's exchange rate of $0.683), that equates to $1.50 and $1.645 respectively.

in denver regular unleaded about 1.30/gal. mid grade - 1.45/gal. premium - about 1.55-1.60/gal.

definitely inching up, but nothing drastic. i check the same stations everyday on the way home from work and will keep doing so until i can't afford to.

Auburn Arco (Washington state) Reg. unleaded at 1.25.9 yesterday when I filled up Premium unleaded was 1.39.9 -- 30 Dec. it was 1.31.9 and 1.44.9 at the same station. How can it not go up with the price of crude up? Anyone know what the lag time is (usually it goes up just on the rumor that crude is going up - or at least it seems so) between crude price jumps and pump price jumps??

-- Valkyrie (anon@please.xnet), January 19, 2000.

Monterey coast-- as of a few days ago it was $1.39 for 87 level at a discount station. Regular retail stations such as Shell or Chevron and the like are about 20-25cents more. Middle and higher grades run 10-15 cents more per grade.

Expensive places on the peninsula in Silicon Valley are easily $1.69 for regular.

In the town of Troy, Ohio which is 7 miles from my house it is $1.43 a gallon. In my area it is $1.28. A .15 difference. I think Saddam Hussein sneezed harder today and has caused the price of gas to climb.

---ya, Hans, still pretty cheap here. OT, you in the reserves/militia there? got a full auto in your closet? Just curious. Here, most states you can have full auto, the fedgov just makes you wait and wait for a permit and pay a 200$ tax, plus only legacy firearms in the loop for the common guy, so the prices are outrageous and kep climbing. Bet your crime rate is lower, too. Like I said, just curious. Had a boss used to take his vacations in switzerland every year, kept saying he loved it there, wanted to be able to retire there, get a farm or something. He would go on and on how clean and pretty it was, and how honest the people were.

Made a quick trip to Ann Arbor, Mich. this past weekend. Prices at pump: $1.29 - regular; $1.39 - mid grade; $1.49 - premium.

Stopped in Marshall, Michigan on way home, had to make a pit stop :) Prices at pump: $1.40 - regular; $1.50 - mid grade; $1.60 - premium.

Filled truck up when we got back to Indiana. Prices at pump $.02 less than in Ann Arbor.

Checked prices at local staion on way home from work tonight, they're still the same as this past weekend.

Gas in New Hampshire at its cheapest the other day was $1.32/gal. Up here in the cold north, our electric rates increase in the winter (tell me the logic for that!), so a 2000 square ft house with an oil furnace for heat gets a monthly electric bill of about $230!!! And that's no counting heating oil!! We are getting our heating oil for about $.98/gal and we use about 70 gals every 3 weeks. And yes, we also burn wood. Whew!! I'm heading south this year!

Gassed up in Topsham Maine Tuesday in heavy competition area (five/six stations within three blocks just off I-95). Paid $1.19 for regular and watched them change the price to $1.23 as I drove away. Went through again today and cheapest I saw was $1.35. Other stations are even higher. fuel oil is also through the roof -- paid $1.14 yesterday, highest in my memory, and I remember paying 10 cents a gallon in college!

-- Cash (cash@andcarry.com), January 20, 2000.

And I remember paying .99 for gas ten years ago. Price here in Pittsburgh is 1.21-1.26 for regular (down about .05 from Dec. 31). Overall, I'd say we are all still getting a good deal on gas.

Filled up last Friday at $1.279 (unleaded, lowest octane). Have watched the prices climb all week. Most places the lowest level of gas is now $1.399. Southern Wisconsin.
