railroading in knoxville, tn

While I know my following question is not an ACL/SAL HS question, I figure there are some of you who can assist me: I will be relocating to the Knoxville, TN area within the next few mo's. Can anyone advise me as to on line info such as ours that exist regarding the old L&N and current CSX operations in that area. Also, anything out there on current and prior to NS operations in that area. I will be totally new to that area and while I have a very general idea of what has been and what is there, it is very limited. Thanks for anyone's help. David Smith

David, I was down that way for the first time last spring and something you should check out it the Tenn. Central RR Museum in Nashville. In addition to some former CSX (it appears) U-boats, the operating short line, Nashville Eastern (I think the name is correct) runs a herd of privately owned/rebuilt E8s and a yards full of former Amtrak varnish over the old TC (paralleling I-40) eastward to Cookville up some 2% grades. I had the opportunity to run four E8s there last year on a train with 16 passenger cars and two loads of cement--E units on a mixed train. The line didn't quite make it to Knoxville, instead, it handed over it's traffic to Southern.
