OT-Does anyone live near an Military Base

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Good morining all. Just wondering if anyone lives near a military installation. I remember reading a post about the number of aircraft leaving a military base practically down to zero. I didn't think much about it at the time, but have started paying closer attention. Usually there are anywhere from three to six large aircraft flying around about 500 to 1000 feet off the ground around my area. Since the rollover I haven't seen any. Very unusual for this area. I was told in the past that the pilots are required to fly so many hours a month and use a certain amount of fuel... I didn't question the person giving me this information, but took it at face value. It's probably just my imagination, but if anyone else lives near a military installation please respond. Thanks.

I live near NASA Langley in Hampton, VA. Normal Tom Cats, shitloads of C-130's now, spraying at least 5 days or nights a week, even now as I type. Near Army Base, and have choppers flying over more than prior.

Plato, (cool name)

Haven't noticed any change here. (Pope AFB, Fayetteville, NC)

Would be interested to know more about this. Keep us posted.

Thanks much, Dee =)

I don't know about military, but I have noticed less air traffic in general since the first. We usually have a dozen or so planes go over per day. Since the first have seen/heard mostly small local stuff. We've had heavy train traffic. Northeastern Oklahoma.

Hokie, that is amazing. I have been wondering why somedays when I wake up and look at the sky, I could swear I see the remains of contrails. Yesterday (Sunday in DC)they just waited until morning and spent all am spraying. I took pictures and am writing to some of the more ethical congressmen/senators I know to ask, "what is it, they are spraying?" The cloud cover got so thick my kids didn't believe me when I said it was from the contrails.

Two miles from 29 Palms Marine Base, Calif. Little or no flights. One helicopter on Saturday afternoon, and that's been it for some time. As a rule there is a good bit of helicopter traffic. Not now.
