Seanet double billing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

From the Seanet web page.

Dear Seanet Customer:

As many of you are aware, some of our customers were billed two or more times during the first week of January. This multiple billing was apparently caused by an error in the software used to transmit credit card batches to the credit card clearing service.

Our customers who have a billing date of 30, 1, 2, 3, or 4, and are using a credit or debit card for payment are the only ones affected.

Bank of America Merchant Services informed us a combination of IC Verify(the makers of the software) , Visa Net (the credit card clearing house) and Merchant Services would handle the refunds to the customers.

We were told this morning (Friday 1/14) that the credits have gone through to the various credit card issuers and customers should contact their individual credit card company if they have any questions.

We are again processing credit cards. Because of the delay in the processing and the work involved, you may receive a past due notice from us. This is a result of our automated billing system which invokes various dates for various functions which are performed automatically. If you believe you have received such a notice in error, we apologize.

Thank you.

Seanet Corporation

Sorry, no link for this one...it's my water bill. The City combines billing for water usage, refuse collection, and sewer treatment on one bill, which I received yesterday. There are two charges for refuse collection (both different amounts), 2 charges for sewer (both different), 3 charges for sewer treatment (all three different). 2 charges for water service (both different), and 2 charges for water usage (both different). The total bill is more than double the usual amount. Since this is different than the "usual" glitches of double billing, as all the duplicate services are being billed for different amounts, I can't even speculate on what has gone wrong with the City's accounting system. I'm sure I'll be one of many on the phone with them tomorrow.

This isn't a credit card problem. Our business paid off our credit card terminal in November. Our merchant account in December still had the payment charge on it. We just got another statement and it had two charges for the terminal.

Not a big deal, we'll go in and argue with them but check all your statements. You can't trust the computers.
