OT - Do large threads slow down the server for everyone else?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This query refers specifically to the rather interesting "God" thread (Great Deception) which now has over 220 answers.

It is a very civilised discussion that has taken on a life of its own, but I am beginning to wonder if it is slowing down the server and inconveniencing everyone else.

I've seen more access errors this week than I ever sure during the pre-2000 posting peak when the forum had to be moved (and alerts disabled). Would people downloading a 300k thread quite a lot be responsible for this?

I really would like a new thread started (or a new forum!).

Please don't respond to this; I've just realised that I posted this without disabling email alerts.

Sorry
