Tell me about graphics tablets

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm new to the digital camera arena, but so far i have learned a lot mostly on my and thru reading. I learned about these graphic tablets that let u draw and be much more precise then with a mouse. Can someone tell me if they are user friendly and functional. Thanks

Jim:
First make sure the software you use properly supports it! Some critical areas to make a tablet useful are:

Adobe Photoshop does - that's the only program I use but there are lots of others (see below). While the eraser is not critical - the pressure sensitivity is. There's little point to the pen if the software won't let you use it the way you actually draw!
Now - on to the tablet itself...
Buy a WACOM. There you go - it's an easy recomendation. I have an INTUOS 6 X 8. It's about $299.00. You can get a 4 X 6 for less. Also WACOM has other tablets - newer ones that are less expensive and are probably just about as good. You can check them out at the WACOM Web Site.
For a list of software that properly supports their tables check out their Software Support Site.
