Weird Goings On

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I know there are individual threads for each of these stories but I wanted to start one that simply lists them. Please only submit to this thread to add weird-goings on in the last 5 days or evience that it's always this bad and just not newsworthy (Pollies, Trolls & Flamers - ESALFTD then FOAD). Chemical mess in Houston, Water main break in Cincinatti, Emergency plane landing in Boise (scheduled: Seattle to Pheonix), Plane crash in Middle East (Egypt?), Natural Gas explosion in York UK, Oil refinery shutdown in Delaware, Long distance problems in Ohio . . .

Two years ago the power went out in our neighborhood. Weather was OK at the time. Not sure about any construction.

Lack of major media coverage of any failures what-so-ever?

Like Campaign 2000 and the little Cuban boy are the only topics that exist. And now Letterman get's heart surgery? That's news worthy.

I predicted y2k would be a non-issue for the media by the end of the first week but this is worse than anything I could imagine.

Did the posters of the assorted curiosities here ever read the newspapers or listen to the news prior to Y2K?

Is there a BUNKER DIGEST or something we could get them to give them a perspective on what is "weird" and what is not?

Think It:

Water main break was in Cleveland, not Cincinatti. Plane crash was in Libya, not Egypt. There are "weird" things that happened in 1999 and are happening in 2000. Without having a baseline for the normal amount of wierdness in the world, how can you judge if what's happening to day is any more abnormal?

IMO the number of "incidents" reported recently indicate a pattern...not saying they are y2k related, although the potential appears to be there with several of them, but they do indeed indicate a pattern. =)

and not to forget the fact that our military was chided for not revealing to the world (including our enemies) that their satellites were down for three days so we were vulnerable. DUH, media.

I think these latest incidents make a lovely pattern as well. Although sewing is not a passion of mine, I can tell when a pattern could be sticthed into a lovely outfit.

There's a light bulb out in the hallway in my house. Add that to the list.

<> Hello???? If you'd get a clue about the real world, you'd have noticed these type of *stories* were around in '79, '80, '81, '82, '83, '84, '85, '86, '87, '88, '89, '90, '91, '92, '93, '94, '95, '96, '97, '98, and 1999. The only thing weird is your continual grasping at the mythical y2k straw!

Flamers Everywhere - if you read Think It's original post, he/she never stated whether Y2K was causing anymore than normal mishaps. Just the opposite he/she asked for opinions (one can assume that he/she was searching for civilized ones) asking people to list mishaps, speculate if they were Y2K related and compare the amount and severity with mishaps in the late 1900's. Sheesh.
