Comprehensive Disaster Reporting from around the World

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In evaluating disasters around the world for possible Y2K connections, one truly fine publication should not be overlooked, The Weekly World News. This weekly paper fearlessly reports stories that other papers are afraid to report

Where can I get this paper, you ask. In your supermarket, but we are not talking about a run of the mill tabloid here. For one thing, it's the only supermarket pub that is in black and white. The reason, the paper explains, is that they can't afford color because they pay top dollar for top reporting. Consider the following two items (both over a year old, so we aren't talking Y2K):

Scores killed in Northern Argentina by exploding grapefruit! You better believe the Argentine government went to some lengths to cover up this story, but to no avail.

Hundreds hurt as Crowd Panics in India! What happened here, it has been determined (with no help whatever from the Indian government, you can rest assured) was that a group of elephants was levitated over a bazaar. Looking down and seeing that they were several hundred feet off the ground, they were terrified and lost control of their bowels Well, wouldn't you? (Even the WWN will make an occasional mistake. The crowd was described as being showered with "cowplops". Come on, we know they weren't cowplops!).

So anyway, be sure to be a regular reader of WWN, if you aren't already.

I heard earlier that one of those elephants caught a stiff Southeast wind and was last seen heading towards Spain. Hmmm...wonder what happened to it...

You only have to post it once, dear. No need to be redundant.
