north american hoax??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

From cbyrne 98 in Denmark - In his/her opinion Y2k was "not just an internet phenomenon but a north american phenomenon". Does anyone else entertain the possibility that the "hoax" was an effort to make sure the population prepares for possible disasters from global warming while the "experts" can argue whether warming is even happening? After all it was the CIA and the Gartner Group that fanned the flames. I, too, blame our "leaders" and their lackeys in the press.

How does a 4kw generator, 50 gals of unleaded, a gross of D cell batteries and 400 lbs of pinto beans prepare one for global warning?

See ya Malcolm, I'm right behind ya!

CL,

Well, I think you are missing the obvious. During global warming (coupled with deregulation) the electric service will become unreliable for many folks. We came close to that just last summer during temperatures of 100+ and I suppose global warming means a lot more than that. So, in order to just get a good night's sleep, you will need that generator and gas to run a window air conditioner for a few hours. The batteries are for getting around when your electric is off due to rationing some nights. And the beans? Just plain good basic food, hot or cold. If ya got em, use em. ;-)
