full screen image?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I'm new to the world of vcd's so be nice! I can get the video to run fine using Windows Media Player. However, if I want to view the video with full-screen the quality goes to hell. Is there a way to get good resolution with full-screen or is the image (vcd) not data rich enough to do that? I've tried PowerVCD also with the same results. I have searched the FAQs at this and other sites, but can't find that anyone has addressed such a basic issue.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Steve

When you playback the vcd using Media Player or PowerVCD, you are playing back using software rendering. You won't be able to get a full screen playback that looks good.

To get full screen and smooth playback on your PC, you need to an addon or separate MPEG decoder card. Some of the latest 3D cards have this built-in. Check with your dealers.

Another thing about playing a mpeg file on a PC screen is that the PC video quality is not the same as if you were to view it on a television. I am willing to bet that even the worst quality VCD played on a PC screen will look better when played on a home DVD player.

In short, the PC has a tendency to accentuate the pixels on the screen since everything is seen in the digital realm whereas on a television things may not look so bad.

Also, hardware assisted MPEG playback would help...
