It's been a while, and now I've got a couple questions...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Hey folks, remember me? In my opinion, our officials are cutting the wrong programs and don't seem to get the point. However, I don't think talking to your representative will do much good because once a politician is in office, they tend to forget who they're there for. But guess what, when a wealthy donor shares the opinion of the voters, this person is proud to say they stand behind their constituents. This goes on a lot, but we don't always see it. I think this little initiative has backfired. If a voter-made, voter-approved doesn't get through to our government, what does??

---A related point: I think a lot of registered voters (the ones that vote) feel they have done their part in the democracy when they vote. When they see this doesn't always work and they might have to do more things like contact their elected official(s), they feel as if what they do has no effect on what goes on. So they are frustrated and give up, thus giving us the gradual drop in voter turnout. Thoughts?
