MAJOR ADAPTEC EASY CD 4 PROBLEM NEED HELP!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

OK, I KNOW THIS WAS DISCUSSED BEFORE, BUT THE REMEDY MENTIONED FAILED TO WORK SO.... here is the problem i had the xing and the adaptec easy cd creator 4 together. I know they dont like each other. So once, i uninstalled and permantely removed the xing encoder and player from my system, and the adaptec seemd to work fine again. I had to re install the xing quite a while ago, and like wise i had to uninstal it earlier tonight. NOW however the adaptec is not doing what it previously did. IT WILL NOT let me add any mpeg to make a vcd whatsoever. I keep getting the message "need to install an mpeg player like active movie". So i went to the microsoft site and updated the windows media player to 6. something. This still failed to work. So i uninstalled the adaptec and tried it again, but with no results. Thier must be something i can do to get this damn f**king thing to work again. Adaptec's site really offers no help at all and further more it wont let me directly email them saying since i bought mine at a store and not directly from them i have to do a million otherthings to get in touch with them. And trying to call them from my job really isnt a good option for me. Can anyone help me out as to what i should do before i firebomb the adaptec building. thanks

Doug,

Try this if you are using Windows 98.

1. Open win.ini file, under the [mci extensions] section, see that you have the statement mpg=MPEGVideo. If not, add the statement and save the file.

2. Open system.ini file. Go to [mci] section. Ensure that MPEGVideo=mciqtz.drv (otherwise mciqtz.dll).

I suggest you keep your old statements by putting ; in front rather than deleting them just in case.

Restart your PC and Good Luck to you. Send me a note if it works.

THANKYOU!!!!!!! i wasnt exactly too sure how to use your method so a friend of mine who is more PC literate then i am helped me out. the Win ini file was fine, but the system file was where my problem was. even though i had permanetly deleted the xing, it still had two lines of mpeg info still pointing towards the xing. So i used the ; in front of each of these two lines and restarted. The adaptec and everything worked just fine after that. thanks again for the info--- Doug mazinz@aol.com

I had the same problem. Got a hint from Adaptec site. Open the VCD creator program. Select the "about" menu item. If it does not say Active Movie it will not work. I Uninstalled the DVD player software I had installed before installing EASYCD and reinstalled the 6.4 mediaplayer software from the Microsoft site. It started working.

Hey Thanks... Changing the System INI file fixed my problem too. I can't believe I finally have this working after trying for 1 Month. I don't know why Adaptec could not supply me with this solution. Fire bombing wasn't my next option but I certainly was heading in that direction. Thanks again for a solution to a very perplexing problem. Dave
