another audio/video sync problem/question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

ok, for some reason on some films, no matter what i try the audio and vid sysnc go out of whack after converting. Here is what i do: i use the dazzle dvc to capture at a bit rate 0f 3000, then i used to enode this with the panasonic to vcd format. most of the time this is just fine, but again just on certain films it knocks off the sync. PART 2 i got in touch with the xing tech. they told me that sometimes these cards actually save as an mpeg 2 header instead of a true mpeg system. What they told me to do is this. using the xing demuxer, then using the xing encoder, re-encode it under 'match" this will change it to a true mpeg header. from here i can encode to vcd format. And it wokred great!!!! It sort of solved the probledm until i saw the results the xing gave me. Quite unacceptable. So i did the same method, but used the panasonic to encode it to vcd, BUT once again it knmocks off the sync. Any suggestions???? Its driving me crazy because i really dont understand why its doing this. What the heck can possibly be wrong with these films to do this? My masters on the PC are just fine. thanks

If you will painstakingly peruse items under Dazzle/Snazzi in this forum you will soon see that getting out of sync, audio and video- wise, especially after more than 30mins of capturing at a stretch, at whatever bitrate, is one Dazzle/Snazzi forte. I suggest ditching that Dazzle and getting another capture device (just to avi this time with some reliable codec like any flavor of MJPEG), a s/w avi2mpg encoder, and a cup of lemon tea to soothe your frayed nerves. C'mon. Dazzle/Snazzi is cheap in more ways than one. You can't possibly be serious about VCD with Dazzle. :)
