Obsolete???? VCDS are practically the video standard over seas pretty much replacing video tape. They have been around for quite a few years and as usual the US is now starting to get its head out of its ass and its opening up the dvd market a bit more with players that can play them. I dont think vcd will ever become obsolete, that is until dvdr gets to the point of it almost taking over vcrs(which wont be for quite a while). As far as standard, it just depends on the company, virtually the majority of players can play vcds now, and soon even more will play the cdrs besides.

I would like to see it become standard. I live in the US and am just starting to get into creating VCD's for my 3D graphics and home video (as well as mixing the two). But with NUON and DVD-A (and other "enhancements") entering into the market, who knows. They just might nix the VCD capibility(ies) with-in a couple more generations of DVD players. If they are wise, they will keep VCD functionality or add it to their lines.
