I hope Ed sticks around

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I for one hope Ed Yourdon sticks around because he's in a better position to figure out what is really happening than most of us. Right now hordes of people are gassing away like they knew the significance of events, and they don't know dip.

I think Ed is going to move to a cabin in the middle of nowhere and start mailing bombs to people.

Amy,

"Libel occurs when a false and defamatory statement about an identifiable person is published to a third party, causing injury to the subject's reputation."

You're walking a very fine line there.

If I were Ed and this were my forum, I'd think I'd give you a promotion to the permanently banned hall of shame.

Amy if you are as ugly as you think a blind date with you would be an undescribable nightmare. Well on second thought forget the looks as it would still be a nightmare.

If you really were Ed, and this really was your forum, nobody would post anything here.

Ed is the only first-tier person in the Y2K-awareness community to so much as return my E-mails, being more humble than certain people more in need of the trait (GN, MH). He is the one member of that group I would love to have as a next-door neighbor (in a 10 or a 1, Y2K-wise). The level of dicourse would be diminished were he to withdraw from the public debate on this issue.

P.S.: I still believe we RGIs made the right decision re Y2K (we are off the bullseye!), and that the other shoe has yet to drop. My family and I continue to prep.

I recall that Amy is the person who in a previous post was trying to get revenge on people she categorizes as "Joe Six Pack", because she accuses him of breaking her glasses. From what I've seen so far, my guess is that you had it coming to you Amy.

And as I recall, you were seriously sense-of-humor impaired in both threads. I guess I'll have to start using emoticons. :)

Getting this off my chest....

I like Ed.

I look at it like this, people have a free will to choose and I would rather have information than not have information. I don't want to see this country become a place where people are afraid to "go against the grain" for fear of ridicule. We are, afterall, a democratic society. I, for one, am not in favor of cloning the American mind.

It is interesting to speak with people who have lived under Communistic rule. I have heard stories that have made my hair stand on end. Nooooo...we don't want to suppress information--even if we don't agree with it.

The only way we know anything in this world is by a comparison to its opposite. We don't know a mountain unless we know a valley; we don't know light unless we have known darkness...and on it goes. Our perception is dualistic.

We are manipulated every day much more than any Y2k Doomers could do. Every TV commercial is an attempt to manipulate the mind to desire a certain product. Take a look at the history of the diamond engagement ring and how that became a tradition. It was a marketing plan to enhance diamond sales. Yet, today...we revere a diamond as a symbol of love. We never give it a thought of how much money a certain company has made on diamond sales. Take a look at who controls the financial market where diamonds are mined.

I do not know Ed personally, but I have read some of his material and I am grateful for his information. I have also heard an interview with him and I thought he was very articulate and professional.

I have a mind of my own and make my own decisions. I welcome intelligent debates based on facts and speculation. Without different opinions we would cease to grow and learn.

Oh my...I have "gone off" a bit here.... =)
