Good morning Today is Monday, January 10th, 2000

CONDITION: Status quo - with qualifications.

NEWSHAWK has been proving to be a pretty darn good source of information. This article came across my desk last night. I have no way to verify it, so I'll blame it all on Newshawk if it turns out to be bogus. OK?

1.9.00 Serious Y2K Glitches Pile Up

We were sent this information by one of our respondents. And this tally of some serious Y2K-related problems is after only ONE week... . In addition to what's noted below, a prominent credit card billing/processing company was hit with the Y2K bug, resulting in multi-system data errors.

Apparently about 40,000 POS merchants and up to 150,000 transactions may have been involved. Accounts were reportedly being double-billed after the initial purchase, then billed once per day afterward. However, it's expected that this glitch, unlike some others, will be rectified quickly. Check those credit card statements VERY CAREFULLY for the foreseeable future.

Subject: Fw: Y2k "Glitches"

Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2000 09:02:34 -0800

From: "Jonathan Saturen"

So far this week there have been 26 power outages across the country; 11 nuclear plants taken off-line--4 of them in the last 3 days; 4 refineries either shut down or working at a reduced capacity, already affecting 3% of our oil.

Nigeria lost 20% of their oil producing capacity-and they supply 6% of the World's oil. Singapore lost about 20% of theirs also--they supply Japan.

There were 3 head-on train crashes in Europe, all within 200 feet of a track switch.

The FAA has had the most problems, already affecting 1/3 of the country's airports.

There were 3 chemical plants fires in the US and 1 refinery fire.

There were 3 sewage treatment plants that had spills in L.A., Texas, and Washington.

Already reports of delays in Social Security and Medicare payments. That could potentially affect 44 million Americans.

2 Saturn plants had to close indefinitely due to "inventory and production glitches".

According to Gartner Group, who has been tracking Y2K progress for about 3 years, by the end of NEXT week we MAY see 10% of the problems......90% to go!

======================================

Gary North's Y2K Links and Forums - Newest Links is also monitoring glitches. He like many of us, is trying to accept the overall assessment of Y2K being a "non-event". Thing is, it is NOT a non-event if it happens, EVER. ================================

Hey Ron,

Just thought you might like to know that you and others weren't the only ones spooked by Y2K. Texas Instruments kept all critical employees at their posts and for five hours operated on diesel generators during the rollover. They only went back to normal power after the rollover passed the West Coast. Accuracy of this info is A+.

Hi Ron,

I have some thoughts that I want to share. I fear that too many people are no longer concerned about the threat of Y2K and they may get rid of their stockpiles and sell their generators. It is way too early to give up.

There are too many unanswered questions. We plan to continue using and replacing (rotating) our stockpiles and continue striving to be more self reliant. I feel very strongly that something is going to happen within the next few years to change life on earth as we know it. As the threat of Y2K continues to wane, we should shift our focus onto self reliance skills, preparation and spiritual preparation as well. Your Y2K Homework has been vital to a lot of people and I would like to see you continue with it in some way.

Thanks again,

Cherie -- Portland, Oregon

Ron sez:

As stated before... As long as I am doing some GOOD, I'll keep cranking out what appears to be the most relevant stuff. I'm trying to keep it brief and to the point.

About the time I see it all begin to "fizzle", a report like the one at the top of the page comes along to remind me that the Spin Machine is still in control of what we see and hear and will STAY in control for as long as possible. "Don't panic" may change to "Be Patient" before long.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and words.

The stories have all been verified from other sources. This looks very bad.

Hadn't heard about the Saturn plants, or that the train crashes were all near switches. Anybody got a link for either of those statements?

-- bw (home@puget.sound), January 10, 2000.

Anybody note that there have been nearly no bad-news articles over at de Jager's press clippings since rollover?

-- lisa (lisa@work.now), January 10, 2000.

My name is Mike B. and I am a polly. Just so you know. It is therefore my job to pick apart this stuff. Remember that almost none of these events have been attributed to y2k. Of course that doesn't mean that they're not. It just means that this writer chose to indicate them as y2k events without any real proof, and probably zero technical knowledge of the incidents. Keep that in mind.

"Nigeria lost 20% of their oil producing capacity-and they supply 6% of the World's oil. " http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/000103/ba.html (I saw nothing even remotely linking y2k to this except the rough date of the article)

"There were 3 head-on train crashes in Europe, all within 200 feet of a track switch." http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20000106/wl/crash_norway_18.html (looked for ever a hint that this may have been y2k related) http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20000110/wl/brazil_train_crash_1.html (this one *may* be a candidate) There was one on quebec before rollover So I could find one in europe and one in brazil (today). Where are other 2 euro-crashes (seriously)?

"Singapore lost about 20% of theirs also--they supply Japan." (Could not find anywhere. Most oil news is about a SURPLUS because of US warm weather.)

"So far this week there have been 26 power outages across the country; 11 nuclear plants taken off-line--4 of them in the last 3 days; 4 refineries either shut down or working at a reduced capacity, already affecting 3% of our oil." (This is all interesting. But how about a little context. how many outages usually? How many nukes back on-line? How many usual? Same info for refineries? This stuff seems alarming but is meaningless without context)

"2 Saturn plants had to close indefinitely due to "inventory and production glitches"." http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/000106/cn.html (may be y2k related I suppose. whoever put it in this list is GUESSING.)

"There were 3 sewage treatment plants that had spills in L.A., Texas, and Washington." (couldn't find any info)

"The FAA has had the most problems, already affecting 1/3 of the country's airports." (I agree, but should be 'affected')

"Already reports of delays in Social Security and Medicare payments." (wait and see - you won't be able to hide this for long if its a major delay - I doubt it will be though).

Just doing my job. Cheers! Mike

Mike, if we're going to nitpick, take it from an English major, degreed in Communication: the word properly used here is "affecting," and not, as you suggest, "affected."

I am in the process of tracking down the original source materials now. Will post URL(s) as soon as available.

BTW: Ron is a fellow minister, and is becoming a good friend. Confidence factor in his reports are extremely high. He does a very good job of follow-through and verification of reports. Anything passed on to him in the form of an unsubstantiated rumor, or as unsourced information, is openly declared as such.

Mr. (or Mrs.) Regular,

Do you know something about how a y2k glitch CURRENTLY affecting 1/3 of the nations airports?

Just curious, Mike

-- Mike (mike@noemail.net), January 10, 2000.

Rev Thunderlight,

I don't doubt the reports themselves. I do doubt that they all have something to do with y2k bugs. I'm sure your friend can prove the power outages etc, but can he prove that they were y2k related (same with train crashes etc)? There is also a off-base suggestion of current airport problems in the US and oil supply problems (the news - backed by prices - reports surpluses).

It is just a mailing list / web board so no real harm done. And most seem to be able to take this stuff with a grain of salt.

best regards, Mike

-- Mike (mike@noemail.net), January 10, 2000.

Ron, thanks very much for this information. The main-stream media ain't gonna tell us anything!

Mike, in turn, I thank you for the obverse side of this coin. No "coin" has only one side. And, I for one know enough English to know what you mean, without nit-picking.

I thank and appreciate you both, spelling be damned.

Mike how much they paying you to be " just doing your job" here at the forum?

-- Swampthing (in@the.swamp), January 10, 2000.

MIKE ... Most of your 'rebuttals' consist of ..." I could not find .." I'll bet you can't "find" your butt with BOTH hands and a MAP ! Silver Eagle ... circling ... watching ... waiting ... pollie for supper ?

-- Silver Eagle (SEagle@freewwweb.com), January 10, 2000.

Mike sounds like a shill.

-- (velum@iolet.org), January 10, 2000.

"Singapore lost about 20% of their [oil production]"... I was unaware that Singapore had any significant oil production... I don't remember it being on any lists of major producers...

OIL Singapore is one of the major petroleum refining centers of Asia, with total crude oil refining capacity of 1.2 million barrels per day (bbl/d). According to the Singaporean Statistical Information Services, the refinery business in Singapore comprised 10.7% of its manufacturing sector in 1998.

"could not find" means I can't comment. nothing more.

"doing my job" means I couldn't call myself a pollie if I let these things go unchecked. I though I was pretty fair about it.

And people are so rude here it's incredible!

You're right-- I'm a shill. We're all shills.
