Digital Camera users? Would you please help me understand resolution question?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I don't understand exactly how digital cameras operate when it comes to resolution settings. For example, if I photographed something in the 1600 x 1200 mode for photo printing, is it possible to somehow lower the resolution from that same image to 600 x 480, enabling me to post it on the web for faster loading, or would I have to take two photos of the same object, one at high resolution for printing and one at low resolution for web posting? I respectfully thank everyone who takes the time to respond in advance, as your expertise is greatly appreciated.

Hi Patricia,

No, you don't have to take two shots. Any image editing software worthy of the name will allow you to re-size or re-sample your pictures. Digital cameras are usually supplied with some sort of editing sofware, and there is always the cheap but excellent Paint Shop Pro.

Good Luck,
