Online photo sites all they're cracked up to be?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Ive seen mention here and there of these new photo sites that offer various services, including image storage. I think AOL has something called youve got pictures (ugh!). My question is what are these places really about and why would I want to store my pictures on some website online? Denise

They give you the ability to upload a number of photos to an album for share with family and friends who have access to the Internet. They also offer services like photo printing, cards, pictures on mugs, etc. Check the link below for more info. http://www.shortcourses.com/specialtopics/sharing/sharing.htm

Also, if you never had photos printed, check out http://www.ofoto.com/ You can get 100 free prints, and they are as good as 35mm.

I second all the information just given, including the recommendation to visit the shortcourses site for more info. On the Ofoto 100 free prints offer though, HURRY! It's set to expire on 1/15/2000, although you have all year to use your free prints once you've signed up.

Did you know that Shutterfly.com is upping the ante by offering 200 free prints for the year with a registration cut-off of Feb. 29th? I heard about this through an email from TriWorks. I have their image management software product, GAZO (www.gazomania.com). It seems Ofoto is a startup company competing with a raft of new Web based printing services like Shutterfly & PhotoAccess. These services are similar to Kodak's PhotoNet. Paige

This offer is a terrific value if you have any images you'd like printed and delivered to yourself or others. A.S.
