Clewiston FL depot

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Looking for any information on the original ACL depot at Clewiston, specifically when (and why) it was replaced by the current metal structure. Whatever happened may have taken place post-SCL merger, since there's mention of the "new" station in a SCL magazine from the late '60's. BYW- has anyone ever visited the Clewiston Museum; if so , do they have anything related to the area's railroading history? It's always closed when I'm going through town. Thanks!

Bob, There's a picture of the Clewiston FL depot(1920's)on page 101 of Robert W. Mann's book RAILS 'NEATH THE PALMS. I hope this helps. E. Howard

There is a photo in the Florida Archives, of the stucco building. I have a feeling there would have been an earlier, wooden depot as well. Here is the URL: http://fpc.dos.state.fl.us/prints/pr01914.jpg
