CLEVELAND, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Damage caused by an overnight fire at LTV Steel's tin mill in Aliquippa, Pa., is described by company officials as "limited in scope" and unlikely to cause any serious disruptions to production.

LTV said Friday that the fire in the No. 4 tin-plating line did not involve the plant's reduction and temper mills or its annealing facilities.

"LTV will minimize disruption of shipments by transferring production to its tin mill products facility in East Chicago, Ind.," the company said in release, adding that production by the Aliquippa plant's No. 3 tin line should resume early next week.

The Aliquippa plant employs about 450 people and produces tin-coated steel for use in containers, automobile production and construction products.

The fire is believed to have started during routine maintenance work, LTV said. The production line was not running at the time and no one was injured.

Hmmm ... that's the 2nd steel plant fire we've heard about in past 2 days:

"A vessel of moltensteel exploded at the Rouge Steel Co., destroying part of a roof, sparking small fires and causing minor injuries .... The cause of the explosion has not been determined, according to Dearborn fire battalion chief Ken Kajkowski. The chief said the molten steel exploded when oxygen was being injected into the vessel."
