Information Added: Saturday, January 8, 2000 - 10:27 PM ----- The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is trying to identify a mysterious foam that leaked into the White River, and they asked the Anderson wastewater treatment plant to take steps to correct the problem. Samples have been sent to a lab near Louisville, Kentucky for analysis, with results expected next week.

IDEM asked the wastewater treatment plan to "immediately contact each of their permitted industrial users to have them reduce or stop their discharges until the wastewater treatment plant is more prepared to handle the incoming waste".

More than 100,000 fish were killed last month after a contaminant flowed through the treatment plant and leakedinto the White River. (See CIRC Incident # 4562) The cause of that contaminant has not been determined, but officials suspec Guide Corp., an Anderson auto parts manufacturer, was the source.

I live in Indiana and certainly have heard much about this but have not yet heard of a y2k connection. Have you?

I was born and raised in Anderson (and once worked at Guide), and I remember when White River always had a disgusting white foam on it. Just when you think we've advanced in our stewardship of the air and water...
