There's been a whole lot of anthrax threats going round...

65 Anthrax Threats aimed at Planned Parenthood Offices Nationwide Florida Division of Emergency Management

An envelope containing a suspicious substance was delivered to the Immokalee Police Dept. A written threat identified the contents as anthrax. The person that opened the envelope carried it through the building, exposing an unknown amount of people to the agent. P/D called hazmat. Hazmat called Chemtrec. Chemtrec called CDC. FBI/ S/O, P/D F/D and Co. Health have all been notified. No assistance requested. The people evacuated are being held by the P/D awaiting determination of the agent. UPDATE per Jim Von Rintell 1230: No indication that there was any anthrax in the package, only a note saying "you've been exposed to anthrax". Dept. of Health will monitor situation and notify SWP of any change. (jpe)

Reports a second threat. This one is at the Planned Parenthood office. The incident is described as identical to the last (see SWP 00103-23). The letter stated "You have been exposed to anthrax. You will be dead in 24 hours." The FBI is responding to the scene to take control of the letter. Update Per Ellory Gray: There were 65 anthrax threats reported so far in the United States today. Yikes.

The vial turned out to be nothing but water. Were the Planned Parenthood incidents hoaxes too? I couldn't access the page.

The Unabomber's actions got the postal service to start requiring everyone to present any articles weighing 16 ounces or more to a postal clerk. I hope this crap won't get them to make us stand in line at the post office to mail letters too!

Terrorists use mailboxes. They seldom stand in line.

As of right now, my pet cow is not allowed to open mail.

Looks like empty threats. I'm no expert on Anthrax, but it would seem that anyone dealing with it would put him/herself at great risk of contracting the disease. That is why so many people use explosives...for the most part, explosives are safe to transport to the terrorist's target. Anthrax, it would seem, is a very poor agent.

They are also a pretty poor excuse for a band....

Kids, I have been working doubles! My wife is an RN at a local hospital here and I am Materials Mgt. Spvsr. at another. I tell you, this flu thing is slamming us! People are lined up in the hallways and we have had to turn others away.

Hope you are all staying well and well away from the public for now! I am actually too tired to go to sleep right now and thought I'd come check out what my fellow info-maniacs were up to.
