Y2K fed the right-wing mentality....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Something I find very telling is the constant blaming of the Clinton Administration and the government for the Y2K problems. It's absolutely bizarre to me that the same people who blamed the administration for ignoring the Y2K problem, for pandering to the pollys etc are now trying to blame them because the hoax failed to materialize. The only constant is that no matter what happens, the government is to blame.

The strong ties between conservatives, Clinton-haters, militia members and Y2K-ers is an interesting one. There was a real longing for a doomsday scenario by these people, which really shows the true desire to eliminate entire sections of the population as well as people who hold less-than-zealot Christian views. The extreme rights inability to force their agenda on the rest of us using ligitimate means has caused a real, fanatic desire to change the country through any means.

The failure of the Y2K doomsday scenario will certainly feed this group mentality. I anticipate even greater stockpiling of weapons and supplies by these people, which will certainly cause the rest of us in this country a great amount of destruction some day.

Quite so.

I ain't no Clinton hater! I believe his face should be on the 5- dollar bill!!! Really, truly I do!!!

I ain't no Clinton hater! I believe his face should be on the 5- dollar bill!!! Really, truly I do!!!

Why? Is that the going rate for a blowjob from a Whitehouse intern?

-- TECH32 (TECH32@NOMAIL.COM), January 08, 2000.

The irony of Y2k is that the 'stay calm' polly crowd tended to be conservatives, too -- they were afraid the gubmint would pass laws and enact regulations telling businesses what they would have to do to be considered Y2k compliant.

Scratch that. Y2k 'ready.' ;-]

According to cpr it feeds the left-wing mentality as well. Or anyone else who doesn't fit into his stifling definition of an acceptable person.

Debunking Y2k webboard

The other side of the Y2k Aisle: The "Community Preparers" are: the Y2K "Change the World" LEFTIST Saturday, 12-Jun-1999 10:10:48 writes:

Several times I stated online and on lists: "The HIGHEST AND BEST USE FOR A LEFTIST IS AS A NEW MENU ITEM AT THE CAT CAGES IN THE DALLAS OR FORT WORTH ZOO". If anyone thinks I deplore NORTH and his band of Jerks, you have no idea of what a card carrying Socialist in disguise does to me. Usually, I have to go jog to get some fresh air and the stench out of my head once their "thinking" comes near me

Now they are "working" Y2k for new memberships in the time honored traditions of 1968 and The Haight. Remember, they live for "tomorrow" as in "tomorrow there will be a better world with equal distribution of the wealth". (THAT BE YO' MONEY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, keep that in mind.)

David Futrelle wrote a piece in Dec. stating: "I can think of nothing more horrifying than the thought of Eric Utne with a machine gun in his hand leading his neighbors in a chorus of "Kumbayah".

Beside the North/Survival/Yourdon/LoserWire/Farah RIGHTISTS: there is an equally disturbing part of the Y2k ignorante' Preparers who HIDE BEHIND FRONTS usually called something like "Y2k Community Preparation Groups".

Recently, a debate started by ME broke out into scathing comments from the BUSINESS INTERESTS and some of the "LEFTIST preparers". I'm out of the loop. I deal in the Y2k Computer Business problem NOT "The POLITICAL ASPECTS". That was how North and now the Leftists "end runned us" to the General Public and why Corporations lost the first part of the Y2k PR Effort. (That is changing fast as even the DOOM Zombies now admit "conversions" are low and defections from theY2k Faith are high.)

NOTE: I say "LEFTIST" which I mean to encompass the PINK and SOCIALIST types who cling to the "share the wealth", re-distribute the goodies, "equality in distribution", save the Owls in the name of "one world humanity" TYPES.

I have a few (very few) LIBERAL friends. That is because DALLAS is not "kind" to them. Even our Minoritys preach the Gospel of "GET OFF YOUR ASX AND GET TO WORK AND DON'T BE EXPECTING NO HELP FROM ANYONE UNLESS YOU DO". THEY (We) call it "BOOTSTRAP CAPITALISM".

Get a job, get more education, get a better job and get more education. Start a business and MAKE MONEY so your kids don't have to work like you.

-- Middle (of@the.roader), January 08, 2000.

Man...you are full of it. Stop being intellectually lazy and use the brain you have. Y2K cuts across all political, social, moral, economic and intellectual lines. Come on buddy, we've had enough verbal vomit from both sides of the issue. If you want intelligent responses to your ideas, come up with something better than this.

-- TM (mercier7@pdnt.com), January 08, 2000.

At least there was some mentality to feed!!

-- Ray (ray@totacc.com), January 08, 2000.

I agree with all of you.

While I don't agree that stockpiling of materials "...will certainly cause the rest of us in this country a great amount of destruction some day," you bring up an interesting point; that of "...a real longing for a doomsday scenario by these people."

(Ever saved for a rainy day? I think having some extra around is a good thing, but I've written about that in previous posts.)

I have often wondered if humans are somehow hard-wired to crave mass extinction. Perhaps that is a bit extreme; perhaps we were NOT hardwired in such a fashion, but because of the mess we have made of our environment, our chemically damaged children now are hard wired to self destruct. Sort of like the body rejecting foreign material, except that now it is our very chromosomes that are no longer quite "human." Hence, the urge to rid ourselves of the collective "wrong tissue" in the form of extreme self destructive(and homicidal/ genocidal) behavior.

Strieber and Kunetka postulated a tendency toward mass extinction in their book "Nature's End." An interesting read for that topic alone, as well as their predictions about the environmental destruction that we have wrought(and will continue to do to the poor Earth until we die from our efforts) upon the planet.

Any way you wanna look at it, the trend toward removal of large populations from the earth of ANY species is disturbing, indeed. Where shall it end?

Peace to All,

I get a kick out of watching the right-wingers because they are such control freaks. They try every desperate low-life plot in the book to make liberals look bad, and they just keep falling flat on their face, looking more the fool with every attempt. The more desperate they get, the more extreme and far-fetched their rhetoric is, and it is only causing them to embarass themselves. The entire conservative movement is going to self destruct if they don't learn to chill out and start acting rationally.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), January 08, 2000.

Since when do liberals need any help in looking bad? I've found them to be quite capable of needing no help in that arena at all as you have just deomonstrated with your last post, Hawk.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), January 08, 2000.

" I get a kick out of watching the right-wingers because they are such control freaks."

Gun control, internet control, religious broadcasting control, control of all educational institutions, control of 'hate' speech, control of your bank transactions, the list goes on...... Indeed we have to do something about that right wing Clinton control freak feller.

-- Forrest Covington (theforrest@mindspring.com), January 08, 2000.

That was from my neighbor. I doubt that he will be president next year.

Best wishes,,,

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), January 08, 2000.

I was referring to control of the White House. Conservatives are obviously very furious that the Democrats have control, but you can't get it back by using scandals and lies, the people are smart enough to see right through it and it ends up biting you in the ass. They are going to have to calmly and rationally prove to the people that their policies will be better for everyone. It requires a lot more honest effort than the muckraking strategies, but these days it is the only way, because people are fed up with all of the low-down political game-playing.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), January 08, 2000.

Ted Bundy (notorious serial murderer) was a right-wing political activist
cpr is a right-wing political activist
Kevin Coe (notorious serial rapist) was a republican realtor
cpr is a republican realtor
cpr is a notorious y2k debunker

1. The Quantico boys should add Y2K debunkers to their serial rapist/murder profiling

2. H.H. is a moron

You make the call

-- (I vote@HH.moron), January 08, 2000.

H.H., I'm a long-time liberal and a doomer. I think you're dead wrong, buddy. On all your posts. Best

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), January 08, 2000.

---what arrogance, and misinformation. Truly weird. I'll bet you find folks who prepped for y2k more or less better informed, more caring of their families, and more community oriented than their neighbors. And to dislike the king takes about two minutes to figure out, he is despicable and a liar and a disgrace. This far into a prez campaign, all the campaigns I can remember, the bumper stickers would be out, plastered onto cars. Question? Where are they? Could it be that folks have had their eyes opened just a bit, and stood back and really LOOKED at what was going on? All the off topic posts have been great, maybe not a lot of minds changed on this or that, but certainly a lot of LOOKING and PONDERING things that weren't looked at before, by any number of people, all persuasions and flavors. It's the perpetuation of stereotypes that is disruptive and damaging. YES, we need to all "see behind the curtain" in regards to all governments and large corporations practices, YES, it's totally OK to be prepared for eventualities outside our control, and YES, people may have any religious or non religious agenda that they want, that's this whole deal in a nutshell. After looking at evidence, I am much more concerned over the little or non voting masses who spend their time in indulgences, with sports, with mindless lowest common denominator teevee, that with those activists who at least have passion and committment for their individual interests and causes. Now THOSE OTHER people scare me, they have no soul outside of me me me me me. They think no farther than todays headlines which they probably don't see anyway. A nation of strong and aware and prepared individuals is a LOT better than a nation of led by the nose toe the party line cowards and dullards. Take your pick, you have the rest of your life to decide.

I dunno...the Utne and Catholic Worker types can hardly be called Right Wing anything. And in fact, the Left may still see its interests harmed by layoffs associated with the turnoff of non essential systems. Kosky said that the FEDS retired 20% of their systems...how many workers does that represent?? Ditto the private sector.

Just slightly OT: was at the Post Office today for the first time since the ROLL. I remarked that their "clock" must use the same chip as the desktop Millennium Clock...they both rolled into the same standard date / time format. The clerk said the 4 person crew at the branch on Rollover duty reported an uneventful evening.

-- K. Stevens (K. Stevens@ It ALL went away eight days ago.com), January 08, 2000.

The left and right wing both have factions that want to see the government/society crumble, for various reasons. Actually, it appears as if they were both working in concert hyping Y2K doom.

Neither extreme is satisfied by the outcome.

"The only constant is that no matter what happens, the government is to blame."

Well said! Couldn't agree with you more.

-- Not wrong winged (Right@the.wing), January 09, 2000.

Personally, I feel that the whole body refuse that make up our gov in DEE CEE should be flushed down the toilet and start over with a whole new roll of toilet paper. Human nature being what it is, it would take far less time for the same unflushed toilet to make itself known by it's stink. Yes, I blame DEE CEE for a lot of our troubles. The desire to HOARD wealth has made it what it is, and with time it would happen again. They want your money and mine, and they will get it, making you bow down so they can tromple on you back, while they get it.
